Replacing radios with GPS units

Featured Replies

Has anyone had any luck with replacing the default comm units with the RealityXP gauges. I have looked through the panel.cfg in both the 182Q and 206 and I can't see the entries for the Com1/Nav1 and Com2/Nav2 radios or the ADF. Has anyone else been able to swap these out for the RXP 430 or 530 GPS units? If so how? Thanks Regards, Scott

Mainly wanting to retrofit the Cessna 182Q,I have just got it working in the C206 after much trail and error but can't work out the 182

Scott, I'm just working with the RXP Flightline Apollo and the C182RG II and that works good, because the RG II hasn't any modelled knobs.Well, please tell me, which gauges to you want to retrofit. I don't know if I can help you, because I haven't all gauges from RXP yet, but maybe we can figure out the problem. What happens with your retrofit, how does it look, do you have screenshots?Tell us more.PhilEdit: some screenshots from today, not ready yet, but playing with it in the C182RG II...Livery is freeware from fullterrain.com, gauges are WX500 and Apollo Flightline from RXP. More to come, maybe I'll share some configs but first I have to save money to buy the expensive gauges... :( screen_464mwh3.jpgscreen_465fknv.jpgscreen_466y7mn.jpg

Toxin, that is looking fantastic! Just what I was after. I have also managed to retrofit the GNS430 into the Cessna U206G. I am currently away but I will post a few shots when I return this week.

This is my definitive panel edit for the C182RG:2jfzzgw.jpgCan't imagine using another panel again. :( The audiopanel and radio are from the C185F. The GPS is the default FSX GPS. And since the second radio is gone, I put a cover over the second VOR gauge. :( At one time I also had the default AP installed, but it looks ugly and I don't need it anyway (I rather fly by hand), so I reinstalled the original one again.

Here is one of my C182RG panel changes. Just showing the one-for-one changes. The 182RG was very easy to work in the changes. I am playing around now with a newer autopilot.C-182RGRadioStack-1.jpgRayM

This looks really nice! Great work there!Being ignorant on this I wonder how one gets about changing the panels. Any rough guides out there? I would love to make the 172 looking like the following pic of one of our club's Skyhawks. I am doing the repaint now but making the inside look similar too would be awesome:06062009055.jpg

Dimus, the 172 is unfortunately not possible due to modeled knobs in the radiostack-area.

I see. Thanks for answering Toxin. I'll just try retexturing the panel then to get the colour right and do the external repaint. If it turns out OK I might post it here.

Yeah, that's too bad. Spent way too much time trying to make it work. But I got no advance talent in editing to get rid of the knobs.

Would anyone be willing to share the panel.cfg entries for the above shots? Many thanks.

Will these work for VC in Vista-64?

You won't get more talent in editing these knobs, because they're modeled in the model. I wrote to Carenado few weeks ago, if it would be possible to get a model without these knobs modeled and I have to tell you, Carenado made support in writing me a reply with the answer that it isn't possible, because the knobs are included in the model. However, 182RGII, 182Q and as far as I know the 206 are compatible for a retrofit for the GNS430/530, Apollo, FLT and FLN of RXP.Also tried the 430 in the Archer II, which is modeled at standalone at the side-window and it's working fine but not the most beautiful solution. The GNS 530 works also in the Saratoga as replacement of the FS-GPS, but I have to play a little bit and making a retrofit including the night-masks.
