April 17, 201016 yr You won't get more talent in editing these knobs, because they're modeled in the model. I wrote to Carenado few weeks ago, if it would be possible to get a model without these knobs modeled and I have to tell you, Carenado made support in writing me a reply with the answer that it isn't possible, because the knobs are included in the model. However, 182RGII, 182Q and as far as I know the 206 are compatible for a retrofit for the GNS430/530, Apollo, FLT and FLN of RXP.Also tried the 430 in the Archer II, which is modeled at standalone at the side-window and it's working fine but not the most beautiful solution. The GNS 530 works also in the Saratoga as replacement of the FS-GPS, but I have to play a little bit and making a retrofit including the night-masks.You can always make a Popup with the GPS of your choice with an easily clickable hot spot. Size and place the GPS near the center of the panel and it will stay in the generally correct location. If you are looking around while using the VC, just click it off then back on when you are looking straight ahead again. You can map the click to your yoke or joystick and it works quite well when all else fails. I have this setup on the few VCs that have the 3d knobs in the way. I have added the GPS/Nav switch and Power ON/Off to the face of the GPS for convenience. Sometime I stick on the other SimIcons to have them handy in the VC.RayMRayM When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
April 29, 201016 yr Hey guys, does anyone know if the mooney (fsx) can recieve the realityxp treatment? I would love to modernise the radios in her! also, anyone know if the sandel gauges will become compatible for FSX? that would be one snazzy little system for the bonanza! May 13, 201016 yr Ray,I really like your panel setup with the G530 and G430. I fly (in real life) a Cessna with a similar configuration, and I'm wondering how to configure my C182RG model to look like yours. Better yet, would you mind sharing your panel configuration? I sure would appreciate it. Regards,-Rob Here is one of my C182RG panel changes. Just showing the one-for-one changes. The 182RG was very easy to work in the changes. I am playing around now with a newer autopilot.RayM
May 13, 201016 yr I realized that I may have put the cart before the horse with my previous post - I'm a new subscriber but a veteran FSX user, and am looking for a way to change the default GPS (A Garmin 295, I believe) in Carenado's R182 RG into a Garmin 430 or 530. I'm a real-world pilot and use FSX to help keep my VFR and IFR skills sharp. However, Carenado's default GPS (a handheld unit) doesn't have the IFR GPS approaches like that of the Garmin 530 (included in the FSX-default aircraft) or in the G430. The Carenado customer service folks said its possible to modify their R182 RG to use the G530, but didn't give any details (they pointed me to this forum and said I might find the answer here). I'd appreciate any help you folks could provide. Regards,-Rob
May 13, 201016 yr Rob, do you want to insert the GNS 530 WAAS only, or any other gauges too?Maybe I could help you, but I don't know the differences between the FS9 and FSX panel-configs, because I'm a FS9-user.Do you have FS Panel Studio?Phil
May 13, 201016 yr FSX gauges work exactly the same as FS9 gauges. Thanks to the flat (no 3d buttons) radio stacks in the Carenado 206 and 182, it's perfectly possible to put any gauge you want in there and move things around at will. What exactly do you want, Rob? Do you like J van E's setup but want to use the RXP instead of the default 530, perhaps? If that's not it, try running us through the radio stack top to bottom.
May 13, 201016 yr As a minimum, I'd like to replace the popup Garmin 295 in Carenado's C182 RG model with a Garmin 530 - The former isn't useful for GPS instrument approaches. The next step up would be to have a radio stack similar to Ray M's (see picture below), with the G530, G430, all the other bells and whistles. To answer Phil's question, I don't have FS Panel Studio - would that allow me to change by panel setup? If so, where does one get it?Thanks.-Rob FSX gauges work exactly the same as FS9 gauges. May 13, 201016 yr Thanks a bunch, Toxin. can't wait to try it tonight. Are all of the component models (i.e., for the radios, transponders, etc.) already contained in the FSX and C182 programs, or do I have to download them as well? -Rob This is my retrofit...Here's my panel.cfg, just pick out, what you need...Be careful, it's a part only, so you have to edit your panel.cfg, because I don't know, if I'm allowed to share anything of it.So pick the lines out you need
May 13, 201016 yr Thanks a bunch, Toxin. can't wait to try it tonight. May 14, 201016 yr As Bert wrote, Apollo is for FS9 only and all the gauges are payware. But you can pick out, what you need, so if you have the GNS 530 for FSX, look for the entries in my CFG and copy and paste them to yours.Maybe it works, but as I said, I don't know if the CFG's of FSX and FS9 are the same. But if you retrofit your panel, think about the night-mask of the panel, it have to be edited as well.If you need something else, let me know, I also have a panel-retrofit with the GNS430 for the RG.
May 14, 201016 yr To get you started you might want to use this edit I made some time ago for the 182RG.It uses the FSX GPS, FSX AP and I even added the FSX GPS/NAV switch and annunciator (doesn't look quite realistic there, but it is handy to have it).As you might see, it only has one little (ugly) problem: since the default 182RG radiostack is one big gauge I had to place the default GPS on top of it, and as you can see a part of that default 182RG gauge covers a part of the top right of the FSX GPS (on the range button). If you click the range button a part of that black will disappear. Sometimes is disappears completely. But it isn't perfect. Big advantage: IT IS FREE! ;) As I said, I just posted this to get you started. ;) To install this edit, simply copy the following over the original [Vcockpit02] in the panel.cfg of the plane you want to edit.[Vcockpit02]Background_color=0,0,0 size_mm=512,512visible=0pixel_size=1024,1024texture=$CessnaRG_2gauge00=CessnaRGRadios!RadioMainVC, 0,0,256,359gauge02=fs9gps!gps_500, 0,167,255,192gauge03=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio AP, 256,8,255,77//gauge03=CessnaRGRadios!RadioAP2, 256,0,256,113gauge04=CessnaRGRadios!RadioTrans, 259,115,256,63gauge05=CessnaRG2!start, 384,238,128,127gauge06=CessnaRG4!FuelPress, 256,238,128,128gauge07=CessnaRGRadios!RadioDME, 256,179,256,57gauge08=CessnaRG2!EngineL, 0,374,448,67gauge09=CessnaRG2!EngineR, 0,445,448,67gauge10=CessnaRG7!GearLightUp, 448,383,64,64gauge11=CessnaRG7!GearLightDown, 448,448,64,64gauge12=Cessna!Nav_GPS_Annunciator, 256,88, 15, 19gauge13=Cessna!Nav GPS Switch, 272,87, 20, 21I myself don't use this edit anymore: I made another one in which I use parts of the C185F radiostack, so the default 182RG is completely gone and I don't have those little ugly erros anymore. If you have the 185F too, I could post that edit also. But for now I will only post this free one! ;)In this one I reinstalled the 182RG AP because it looks nicer. I did add the FSX AP as a popup though, in case I really need the AP ALT.
May 14, 201016 yr Thanks for all the support, folks (Bert, Toxin, and Jay). So much to learn here, but its great to see how configurable FSX is. I was able to successfully change out the popup C182RG's GPS for FSX's default G530 which now at least allows me to practice my GPS approaches. I'm likely to upgrade to the payware RXP G530 since the FSX G530 really isn't that great (missing many features compared with the real thing), and the RXP version is billed as an authentic replica. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to run Toxin's config file since I don't (yet) have all the payware guages, but will try to modify it to use the FSX-default gauges in the mean time. I also appreciate Jay sedning his configuration using FSX's default gauges - looking forward to trying that out tonight. I forsee spending a lot more time with FSX now that I know what it can do.Thanks.-Rob
May 17, 201016 yr I recently picked up Carenado's 172N model and am trying to replace the default radio stack with a custom stack from my C182RG model. The problem is that the C172N seems to have a bitmap graphic of the radio stack in the Virtual Cockpit mode that can't be removed in the panel.cfg file, as can be done in the C182RG config file. When I removed the radios listed in the C172N file, it only removed the functionality of the radios, but not the radio graphic (which includes 3D knobs, etc.). I tried just add my new radio stack configuration into the 172N panel config file, hoping it would overlay the existing graphic, but the 3D knobs of the default graphic poke through (right through the screen of the GPS display...), so that doesn't work. I did some snooping, and it looks like the radio stack bitmap is in one of the C172N CAB files, and is being called by an XML file within the same CAB file. So, my question is whether there is an easy way to remove that default radio stack graphic, or whether I need to modify the XML file in the CAB so that it doesn't call out the radio stack bitmap? While I can extract and read the CAB files, I haven't figure out (yet) how to add a modified file back into the CAB - any help would be appreciated. Thanks.-Rob(Apologies for including this post here as well as at the next higher level forum - still getting used to the used interface here).
