FSX SDK and FSX Standard Edition

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm new to this thing of Avsim forums and this is my first post. Anyways, yesterday I bought FSX Standard from Walmart and I went and intall it and everything went fine until I went and intalled FSXPlanner, when I wanted to start editing FSX airports FSX Planners was asking for the FSX SDK found in FSX Deluxe. I did some research and found that Microsoft only released the FSX SDK in the Deluxe version of FSX and was not included in the Stadard version of FSX. Anyways, I have a friend who lives near where I am, and has the FSX Deluxe version and the SDK, however before I go and ask my friend to lend me a copy of the SDK I would like to ask if the FSX SDK will install in my computer even though I have FSX Standard.Any replies to this topic will be appreciated...Mike.

In addition to being technically illegal to share such files, It may be a bit more complicated than you think. This thread is well worth reading very, very carefully.http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?...ation_%28FSX%29Best advice.... invest in the Gold or Deluxe edition. They are quite reasonable now.

I agree with David. You should not be copying SDK files around. When I started developing Airport Design Editor (ADE) I shipped a copy of BglComp with the test version and my friends at MS gently reminded me not to.

Ok I will not do it then. However this is still technically possible right? (If I get FSX Deluxe and Install the SDK without uinstalling the current FSX standard install) It's a shame that MS did this I think that I will have to go with payware and look for AFX that does not require the FSX SDK. It seems that FSX deluxe is out of stock at most of the online retailers, wish me luck finding it...

Try the usual sources such as E-bay.

Look for FSX Gold - it's Deluxe + Acceleration, and it's probably cheaper than Deluxe:http://www.amazon.com/Flight-Sim-X-Gold-Pc...1755&sr=8-2

The DeLuxe (and especially the Gold) Editions give you more than just the SDK - there are extra aicraft and so on. Generally it is worth getting them especially since a lot of tools do use the SDK.

Ok I bought the Deluxe version on E-bay. So what do I do next, pop in disc one of FSX Deluxe and install the SDK? I really don't want to go through the whole process on uninstalling FSX Standard Edition to put a FSX Deluxe install, I mean FSX is FSX, right? I hope that the SDK installs with FSX Standard... Wish me luck! :( Again thanks for your assistance...

Hi,FSX Deluxe needs to be physically installed on your computer."Purchasers of FSX Standard can obtain the SDK by purchasing and installing FSX Acceleration, (or FSX Gold - Contains both Deluxe & Acceleration)."OR:"FSX Standard users who've installed Acceleration PackFor FSX Standard users only !Do not use the downloadable SDK SP1A version, (it supposedly doesn't contain the nescessary components). To install the SDK for FSX Acceleration Pack: 1. Insert your Acceleration Pack DVD. 2. Browse to the subfolder called SDK\SP1a\ 3. Install the SDK SP1A from there using fsx_sdk_sp1a.exe, ( dated 26/09/2007, size 165,569KB). 4. Browse to the folder called SDK\ 5. Install the Acceleration SP2/XPack SDK using sdk.msi, (dated 06/10/2007, size 216,929KB)."

So you mean that I would have to uninstall the current FSX Standard install and reinstall FSX Deluxe?

Hi,Correct.
That's not good. Anyways, that's what I get because of buying FSX Standard. Anyways I will risk myself and install the SDK with FSX standard. I don't really have a problem, I'm running FSX on Bootcamp (I use a MacBook Pro), so I don't have any problems re-partitioning my Windows 7 partition and install it all over again. Anyways, I don't think is illegal to try and install the SDK in FSX Standard, because is not that version bound as it appears to be, there has been cases in which FSX standard users successfully install the FSX SDK on their FSX Standard install with little problems. Again, it's a shame that MS decided to scrap their SDK's as they did FSX Standard. :( Now I ask anyone in this forum, will I break the law by installing the SDK that I will get from my FSX deluxe odered copy and install it with FSX standard instead of deluxe...

Of course they did........they followed the instructions I posted a few posts back.

FSX is FSX??? Well not entirely. I think you might find some additional items in the FSX deLuxe Edition that are not in the standard. Also I think it is pretty straightforward to do an install over the top of your standard without losing any addon data.
