FSX has stopped working. PLEASE help!

Featured Replies

After using FSX under Windows 7 since it's release I have run into a problem getting beyond the opening screens and have consequently be unable to either launch any of the Missions or use the Free Flight options.I inserted the disks to "repair" any files that may have caused the problem and received a message that the "Repair" installation had been successful".I then turned the computer off and rebooted. This time I got no further than the opening Microsoft Flight Simulator X blue window and a message that "A fatal Eror has Occurred". That was followed by "FSX has stopped working. Windows will close the program and notify you if a soloution is available"No solution was offered. Some weeks ago I upgraded my computer and had to start all my installations from scratch. Hence I'm loathe to go through that again unless I really have to.I'd really appreciate help in solving this problem.Cliff Harris

I had some errors, too, the last days, don't know what have changed...what you should firstly disable with FSX is DEP (Data execusion Prevention)Lefterios' Blog gives some infos and hints aboutsecond, start FSX as Administrator: For this, right click on the FSX.exe (in your FSX folder, not the desktop shortcut).Properties --> Kompatibility --> Here you can see "run as administrator"(maybe some tasks differ; I have a german version)What I have done beside this also:Go to your "Microsoft Flight Simulator" folder and right click, then "security"check here for all users and admins, that you get full access for the hole folder and folders below.this will help, maybe:

How to Take Ownership in Windows 71. Locate the file or folder on which you want to take ownership in windows explorer2. Right click on file or folder and select

Thank you so much for this advice. As I'm not expert in computers please may I ask for clarity on something before I make a possible silly mistake. In the Leferios blog he notes:"Run a Command Propt (DOS) with elevated permissions (Run as Administrator) and issue the following command: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff"Is there a space after exe and before the slash, after set and before the bracket, after nx and before the word Alwaysoff?Cliff

I think so....With this you can't make any mistakes, otherwise you get simply an error message, nothing more, if you make a spelling error.Beside this CMD possibility I have found this:http://www.kishan.info/disable-data-execut...indows-7-vista/theres a batch file also, simple download this batch and click it.Don't forget to restart the PC.Or you google a bit about "disabling DEP WIN7" or something like that.Maybe there are better descriptions...

Cliff,Just copy and paste this exact code in the CMD window with admin rights and you should get a successful message:bcdedit.exe/set {current} nx AlwaysOff

------------------------------------------------Cliff, if you come across a screen that just sits there in any part of FSX, try this: press the ESC key and then when given a choice of three options, press CONTINUE FLYING. That will take you back to where you were with a screen recompile. That will most likely work. Hope it does for you.Mitch

My thanks to all of you who have tried to help me.I've tried all the suggestions and more. Including creating an earlier Restore Point. No luck. So I've bitten the bullet and reinstalled again.Again..........thanks so much.Cliff

Would you please elaborate a little on what that command does? Thanks.

The command is used to disable DEP (Data Execution Prevention).
