Saitek Yoke sticking problem

Featured Replies

Saitek's yoke is utter crap. Had it. Tried to modify it doing REALLY all kinds of stuff, including modifying the rings that hold the shaft, lubricating etc. Took it apart at least 30 times etc... sold it for less than I bought it, and my FF2 has never been better. Although showing already its age...

Thanks Word Not Allowed, that just confirms my view. Time to try something else.Edit: Shame that Saitek aren't monitoring the forums more carefully; I am cross posting to their own support forums, but after 2 weeks they still don't give enough of a ###### to reply there, despite what I've said about the great telephone service I've had. Seems to me that if I were selling this gear, I'd at least check AVSIM for unhappy customers. You know what they say: a happy customer tells 3 people; an unhappy one tells 33!

A little bit of knowledge of physics will tell anyone that the Saitek yoke and its sliding mechanism can never be "smooth", especially if one hand is used to pull it. Linear slides that balance the loads and the forces acting on them are very expensive and need to be made out of metal as well. Saitek has given us a pretty good stick for $100. In fact, I prefer it to the CH yoke.I've coated my shaft with silicone grease and it's ok, so long as I use both hands to pull it. When I am using one hand , I have to be more careful but can still operate a tricky crosswind landing.tony

FWIW I had the same problem with the CH Yoke - you're basically applying force to the yoke shaft on an angle. A "pro" yoke ($2000) with all metal parts may hold up, but this plastic stuff won't. The inability to make fine adjustments ruined it for me.NOW... If only someone would make a Cirrus-style yoke cirrus_cockpit.jpg it would solve a LOT of issues!Good luck-Andrew

Fortunately I've got a refund.I think I'll stick with my X52-Pro.Shame, since I'd like a yoke. But there it is. I'll keep an eye out for a product I can physically try before I buy.Fair play to Saitek, however: problem resolved, with a promise of money back. Can't say that about every company.

My Saitek yoke works well and is not sticky at all. On the other hand, this is the third I have since the first two had the well known ghost-button syndrome (got them swiftly replaced by the retailer at no charge whatsoever). I earlier had a CHProduct Yoke USB, Pedals USB and Throttle USB but I ended up giving it away for free to some guy in a forum since the yoke was very sticky!

I just received my new Saitek Yoke, Throttle Quad and Rudder pedals. Just finished the installation this morning and have come across a problem. I purchased an extra Throttle Quad so I could use the system on twins and four engine birds. The problem is only one set of the Throttle Quad works. The manual leaves a lot to be desired in how to hookup the throttles for multi engine work. Does anyone have a solution? Many thanks, Jesse in Texas

In what way doesn't it work? Isn't it found as a device by Windows or is it but you can't add functionality to it? Personally I have removed all joystick assignments in MSFS and instead do it solely in FSUIPC and it works like a charm. Only trouble was realizing how to set up the reverse function!

I, too, have two Saitek TQ's and set them up with FSUIPC. The only issue I have is, at times, the #1 TQ will not function in FS9, not the buttons nor the levers even though the power light is on. The #2 TQ always works even when #1 isn't. What I have to do is reboot and everything is back to normal. I don't know why this occurs, but a reboot is always good to clean out the memory anyway. Jim, I had similar issue, through multiple joysticks, yokes, TQ etc. It was simply too many USB devices on the various case sockets. Although not all used, not enough power for the devices. Stuck a powered hub on and all solved. Would that be it?Mike

I have a Sitek X52 which also sticks in elevator functions and sometimes in aileron functions also. This is horrible when trying to do some of the missions only to fail a simple but delicate hele landing procedure. When I first started trying some of the lessons, mostly for kicks, I was not able to finish them since they would be abruptly stopped due to the controls sticking causing violent jumping of the control surfaces when it finally released.Has anyone ever found a cure for this? I purchased a refurbished X52 from Sitek directly thinking it would be OK since the manufacturer had refurbished it them self. Boy could I have been no more wrong on that thought and on top of that my warranty was gone in a flash because it was refurbished.I am starting to firmly believe no manufacturer has anything worth using. None of them seem to take care to make sure they function smoothly and provide a realistic flight experience. I suppose that is what we can expect as long as the Sims are looked at solely as games by those developing the controls. Once they get away from the "game" mentality and start thinking in terms of simulation mentality only then will we start to see products which are worth the investment. While we wait for decent products maybe the ones on the market could be packaged with a few dozen air sickness bags.
