Haven't nailed the reason yet but I never got it with my GTX 280 using your tweaks.I also use ENBSeries mod.Any help appreciated.

does running with LOD_RADIUS = 3.5 reduce the crashes or is about the same? btw, I also tested the 480 around Manhattan X! thats weird... is your CPU overclocked? what seems really weird is that you didn't experience this with the 285... so it could be this drivers are also very 'sensitive' and not yet mature

The 480 seems smoother with full autogen although I have backed that off a notch to try and nail the odd driver crask being discussed in this thread (also had this with the 470).Not as much of a hit (if any) with water 2x High. Water 2 x Max seems OK in normal areas, i.e. not Manhatten X!!FPS are much the same to be honest.Daz

Haven't tried reducing LOD_RADIUS. The crash does not happen very often (3 times so far). Each time in Manhatten X and coming to think of it, approaching the same part of the scenery (I'll have to check that). Flying the PMDG JS4100.I tend to agree that it could be a driver issue.....no probs with 280 yet with new driver, same problem on both 470 and 480.I also run another monitor in extended desktop config to run other FSX related apps, i.e. Aivlasofts EFB (although this wasn't running during crash).

I think it is the driver. I tried them yesterday and the time I flew FS with them I had no crash but did have the crash in other games (FC2). I am back to 182.20 good old tried and true with no issues at all. Actually I made a deal with myself that I am not going to try any new drivers till I get a new VC. (not)....

Thank you Daz,I take it then that the 470 GTX seems to be up to the task of running FSX at a substantially higher quality level than seen before in previous Nvidia cards, similiar to, but not quite as well as the 480 GTX. Perhaps the better question is whether you think the 470 GTX is worth buying?Stephen

With the relevant tweaks - Yes. But there is still a balance to be found based on the rest of the system. I also think there maybe a couple of driver issues with the new cards which (relative to FSX) may or may not get fixed.

Sure, add this under the scenery section:[sCENERY]ShowMissingTextureAlert=1Now, you'll know if any 'scenery' is missing a particular texture or set or textures.So far, the ONLY ones i've seen that give an error:FSDT KJFK and Manhattan X.. coincidentially both on the same area you are testing :)
