ONT2006 Issues

Featured Replies

The scenery by Shehryar Ansari for Ontario International Airport is outstanding! However I have encountered an issue with it (other than the incredible effect it has on my frame rate!). The gates near terminal one seem to float a few feet off the ground. I parked a Fokker F100 at one and the tops of the main gear wheels are barely visible. Only the parts of a plane that extend out beyond the gate texture cast a shadow. I edited the scenery.cfg file as the author suggests to correct elevation issues reported by megascenery users but this didn't fix the problem. The author suggests adding Airport 2.60 texture files to FS2004's texture folder, but will this fix the problem? Is 2.60 the latest version of Airport (I downloaded it elsewhere and it's readme file only mentions capatibility with FS2000!).Another problem with this otherwise excellent rendering of KONT is that when I ran FSNavigator's database builder all of KONT's taxiways, airport layout and gate locations disappeared leaving only the runways! I had to remove ONT2006 and rerun the database to restore KNOT in FSNavigator).Any suggestions as to how to fix these issues?

Did you put KONTelev.BGL in ...\FS2004\Scenery\Namw\Scenery? If so, try it in ...\FS9\Scenery\world\scenery.If you sit at the gate in the default C172 what does Shift+Z say your elevation is? It should read 951.7 feet.Shez places his gate textures above the ground, about 1/10th meter, so the underlying textures don't flash through. So it should appear that your tires are a little low on air, but not "the tops of the main gear wheels are barely visible".FS displays aircraft shadows on the ground and since these gate textures hover slightly above the ground there is no way to make the aircraft shadows display on them. The Airport 2.60 textures have nothing to do with this issue and need to be installed to make some scenery objects display properly.I cannot offer any advice re: FSNavigator as alas, I missed that boat.Hope this helps.regards,Joe

There should also be a flatten in the Scenery.cfg entry...[Area.xxx]Title=KONT - Ontario International Airport, California (Shez)Local=KONTRemote=Active=TRUERequired=TRUELayer=xFlatten.0=948,N34 04.13,W117 37.75,N34 04.13,W117 34.50,N34 02.30,W117 34 50,N34 02.30,W117 37.75Mark

Scott,Joe and Mark have provided you with the two possible solutions to your problem. I went back and checked for the issues you are describing and could not find anything wrong. If the problem is with megascenery I cannot help as I do not have that addon but I know that the Beta Testers checked with Megascenery and found no problem. On another point I am working on trying to upgrade the ground ramp textures at some of the airports I have designed (KONT, KHOU, KLGA, KCLE, etc.). Hopefully this will eliminate the shadows and some flashing textures. Will get to it post-current work-in-progress on KLGB :( .Shez

Did you put KONTelev.BGL in ...\FS2004\Scenery\Namw\Scenery? If so, try it in ...\FS9\Scenery\world\scenery.Yes, I did. As it turns out, I put the flatten lines in the wrong secenry.cfg file! At first glance I didn't see a scenery.cfg file in the main FS2004 folder but did find one in the application data in the C:\My documents folder. I finally discovered the correct scenery.cfg file a couple of days ago. As soon as I added the flatten line to ONT2006's entry the problem with the floating gate scenery in ONT2006 disappeared! If at first you don't succeed...!Thanks for the help!Scott

Joe and Mark have provided you with the two possible solutions to your problem. I went back and checked for the issues you are describing and could not find anything wrong.Hi, Shez!Actually, there wasn't anything wrong with the scenery! The problem was all mine! I didn't see the scenery.cfg file in the root FS2004 folder but did find one in fs9's folder in the Application data folder on my c: drive. I put the Area...Flatten lines in that but of course it didn't work. As soon as I found the correct scenery.cfg file and added the flatten line to ONT2006's entry the problem vanished! Your ONT scenery is phenomenal (as is all your scenery for both FS2004 and 2004)! I may be forced to switch to the ONT2006L file, though, as the regular ONT2006 file drops my frame rate down to single digits (as does your BUR file). I hate to do that though. The detail just might be worth the somewhat sluggish frame rate! Other than switching to the lite version for ONT, what display/traffic, etc. settings would you recommend to get the best frame rate?Since I've got you here, to change the subject a bit, I ran into a problem with your SNA scenery for FS2004 (the SNA file for FS2002 works great!). When I selected a gate and loaded the scenery I found my PMDG B737 stuck into the side of the terminal building nearly up to the wings. The AI/static aircraft are not only similarly situated their bellies also scrap the tarmac! Its weird watching them taxing around the airport! Any idea as to how to fix this?Scott

There are a number of fixes for KSNA (it was such a messed up scenery originally :() . Check the AVSIM Library. I think one of them resolves the matter. I assume you have read the readme about the installation of certain amended default scenery files. Also if your AI and your own aircraft are stuck outside the gate areas then it appears you need a revised AFCAD file of which there are plenty available on AVSIM.As for the best settings, frankly use the Lite version and work on reducing the level of detail such as trees and vehicles. I prefer to keep the gates etc. Obviously, my advice would be to get an upgraded computer as the requirements to run these higher detail sceneries are well within the capabilities of even the low-end relatively cheaper computers (Core2Duo) available these days. My computer is a Core2Duo E6750 with 2BG RAM and a NVidia 9800GTX GPU and even it being two years old it still swallows anything I throw at it in FS2004 and even FSX. A lower end than mine will still work well. Another thing you might consider...reduce cloud coverage.RegardsShez

Thanks, Shez!I'll see if I can't find one of those revised AFCAD files for KSAN and I'll take another look at the readme file. Perhaps I overlooked something...Yes, a new computer would be the best, and obvious, solution to the frame rate problem. Unfortunately, that isn't an option at the moment nor is it likely to be anytime soon so living with a low frame rate (I can, by playing with the settings, get it almost up to 12-16 which is, for the most part, bearable) or switching to the lite version (thank you, btw, for putting out a lite version! You're one of the few scenery designers that have!). I did replace my 256mb Nvidia GeForce 6200 graphics card with a 512mb 7600 GS card but this didn't have any effect, so far as i could see, toward improving the frame rate.Actually, reducing traffic seems to improve the frame rate more than reducing cloud coverage. I've reduced cloud coverage to zero and saw little or no increase in the frame rate...Scott

Actually you are correct, AI traffic is a big hog unless you use the really low-res models and reduce coverage. I only fly on VATSIM so don't get such a big impact. Clouds impact is related to anti-aliasing.Shez

BTW, Lee Brompton's AFCAD file for KSNA resolved the problem quite I was having nicely! Did you ever do a FS2002 scenery file for KBUR or a FS2004 scenery file for KLBG?Scott

No FS2002 for KBUR and the FS2004 version of KLGB is in development (slow :( ). See attached.Shez

Shez, that's simply lovely!!! Been waiting for that one. When ever I was heading home to Santa Monica from surfing at Bolsa Chica or Huntington, one of the highlights would be to cruise by Long Beach airport and hope to see a C-17 takeoff from the Douglas plant there. You know, on the north east side of that airport there is a high school....Mark

Great news for us Jet Blue flyers. I'm glade to see this airport finally coming back. :(

I am only trying to get the night lighting done and I will send to Beta Testers this month. Unfortunately that simple task takes ages when time is limited :(. I think a July release is possible as I am away from homebase the entire June.Shez
