Blurry Textures

Featured Replies

Hi,OK, I have no idea what is going on. I installed YBBN by ORBX and everything was working great. Nice smooth crips textures were displaying, then I read about some FSX.cfg file tweaks that should be added from the BP=0 conclusions post in this forum. Since then I can getting blurred textures per the attached photo, not just at YBBN but everywhere. It's like the distance that the textures are being drawn has shrunk to just around the aircraft. I removed those tweaks but still no change.I have included a picture of what I am talking about and a copy of my cfg file. Please let me know if anything stands out?Image of problem:As you can see, looks nice close to the plane but terrible 1/2 way down the runway and beyond.Tweaks made (but since removed from cfg select Ansiotropic filtering in fsx

Jim Wenham

I hit a wall with all of this tweaking myself tonight(it gets addicting), so I did the only thing I could think of.Delete fsx.CfgPut back in Bufferpools=0Traffic X entryLock frames at 24Affinity mask=12 (I am on a 4 core I7, so your value may change)and Voila, no more texture weirdness(occasionaly blurries but that's it)Also I am on Win XP, so I don't need the high mem fix line, you may depending on your OS.It's like we bind this sim up with all of these cfg tweaks and then wonder why it acts squirrely

AA was turned on, however I went into my ATI control panel set anistropic filtering to x16 and it seems to have cleared it up now.

Just a couple of comments/observations...You don't describe your OS, your cpu, your memory or what version of FSX so I can only compare to SP1 and XP 32bit on my 2 core.butyourProcSpeed=7675PerfBucket=7myProcSpeed=8521PerfBucket=6Curious; did you bump your performance up or is it just my 2-banger?-----------------Display section-your image reminds me of what my SP2 on Win7/64 looked like as I was setting it up before I added-MipBias=5did you have this or some other value previously in the display section?-----------------You still have the HIMEMFIX in your GRAPHICS SECTION ON------------------TERRAIN-MESH_RESOLUTION=25 is overkillas isTEXTURE_RESOLUTION=29 you have any 7cm scenery? This directs FSX to process those tiny high-res scenery 'rings' under the aircraft that you can't even see and have nothing to put in...-POOLS-UsePools=0 <----------- pools are still off but when they're on..Poolsize=490 000 000 default is 4M and we bump that to 8 or 10 or 20. You have 490M ! Really?Did you miss removing some of the tweaks or are you not actually using this cfg?Loyd

Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro

I completely agree with you on this. How much time do we actually spend flying over tweaking or scenery building etc? I am always tweaking or re doing completely, AFCAD files so the act more like real life, only to realise I have spent 3 hours NOT ACTUALLY FLYING!Oh well, such is the beast! What's the Affinity mask=12 entry about? I'm on an Intel Core2 Due 2.66GHz cpu...does this even apply to me?

that's for them quad-type guys...it's the decimal equivalent of the binary pattern 1 1 0 0 that controls what cpus are used by the application (as I understand it) - this code says for application to use first two cpus, but not the last two - hope I got that right...Loyd

Ah OK, I see.For the record my specs are:Windows 7 HP - 32 bit4GB DDR2 800MHz RAMATI Radeon Mobility HD4650 - 1GBCPU per aboveFSX SP2I guess they are they main ones.

No, the i was using a fresh cfg file. That was a copy of my old one.

Which Catalyst version are you using? If (as I suspect) you are using post-9.10 drivers, there is a known (and unfixed) problem with anistropic filtering making all textures beyond a short distance blurry just like in your screen. The solution is to go back to 9.10.James

Using version 8.632.1.2000

After all the mucking around, seem to have it back to normal now...

Hadn't heard this before. Is this true of FS9 as well?

What's wrong with that?I used to use 400. IIRC, "490000000 or 400000000" is the same thing as 490 or 400, respectively. I believe this value is most dependent on the amount of RAM your videocard has. if he has a 1GB Videiocard, setting it to 490 should not be a problem.

Yeah, that's why I had the 490 in there. I read if it's 1GB that sort of value is fine, but a problem for cards under 1gb.

I think the bufferpool is actually system memory. The bufferpool size is how much system memory will be used for video in FSX before the CPU offloads video processing to the GPU, hence the "CPU" bound concept of FSX. This would also explain the performance of turning off the bufferpool, which allows the CPU to send video processing straight to the GPU. The RAM on the GPU becomes important not because of the bufferpool size, but because a fast processor (i7 4.0Ghz+) will send commands very quickly to the GPU, so a fast GPU with large amounts of RAM will better be able to handle the incoming requests from the CPU.
