May 8, 201016 yr Can someone explain the difference between payware and donationware? I always thought donationware was you download something. try it out, then donate if you want to donate something. But I found 3 different donationware FS9 planes where you have to donate first. Wouldn't that be payware?

May 9, 201016 yr There is a slight (and I emphasize slight) difference in some cases. In the case of the UIVER DC-2 the proceeds are supposedly going to the preservation of the last flying DC-2. But either way if it's donationware or payware you get a plane and somebody gets money.

Wouldn't that be payware?Yes that is by definition payware.Donationware is fully functional and the author/distributor asks for a fee.Payware is not at all functional until you pay for it. [edit] with the exception of demonstration payware [/edit]Regardless of where the money goes, if you have to pay for it to use it, it is payware.regards,Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
May 11, 201016 yr Yes - donationware implies that the money is donated to some worthy cause, not pocketed by the developer. There are two very different kinds of business labeled as "donationware":1) Payware product where the author pledges to give the proceeds to a worthy cause (usually with no way for customers to verify that).2) Freeware product where the author is begging for money. For me, supporting authors of FS addons IS a worthy cause, so I never pay for either of these "donationwares". After all, if I pay for something, I want the money to help the development of quality FS addons.
