May 15, 201016 yr Having played around with it a while I'd be interested in the nitty gritty of the differences/limitations/possible superior/inferior effects from the fsx version. My first impressions-much better for xplane but it isn't rex for fsx for sure..Those clouds sure rotate around-I've never noticed it in fsx but sure do in xplane.I did like my encounters with tstorms and display in the cockpit-one area xplane shines over fsx.--but overall doesn't seem capable of the same that its counterpart in fsx is capable of...am I missing something? May 15, 201016 yr This is a huge step in the right direction for X-Plane! While the default weather system when configured manually or with the random generator worked well, X-Planes online weather system left much to be desired. REX should solve that problem! May 15, 201016 yr Thanks for the shots! I just bought it and am downloading now. There are already videos of REX in X-Plane at Youtube: The first video shows the rotation of the clouds which is a limitation of X-Plane. Some of REX's extreme HD clouds also look in FSX like 2D clouds, so maybe this effect can be reduced with a less pronounced cloud type.I have to install and test by myself.I hope XP10 will have procedural clouds or the Simul Weather engine.

If you are moving your head in the virtual cockpit like you should be it is pretty noticible. Also-like my 3rd screenshot shows I get this quite a bit...Still a huge improvement for xplane-and the rw aspect of it is very nice. I do wish like the fsx version you also had the ability to change water/runways etc.I'd really like to see a land texture improvement add in now! Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

The rotation is annoying and clouds which stuck in mountains are annoying too. Maybe the REX guys are able to find workarounds with the help of Ben Supnik?I don't regret my purchase because the weather engine is a big improvement and i like the sky colors and cirrus layer.X-Plane is a lot less sophisticated than FSX (in terms of variations), so i guess to get a perfect graphical enhancement, users would have to switch to proper textures before every flight. Many Thanks to the REX developers for their pioneer work on X-Plane!

Also-like my 3rd screenshot shows I get this quite a bit...Hopefully LR will fix some of these niggling issues in XP10. XP10 + REX could beat FSX weather hands down.Apparently (from what I skimmed in the SDK a while back) its possible to load new textures dynamically in flight. This means that REX could inject appropriate textures as the weather changes during flight. If XP could blend those textures changes smoothly (maybe have 2 texture sets?) then it would look outstanding!Anyway... good job REX devs, hope you talk to LR and tell them your wishlist. LR absolutely need 3rd party devs like yourselves to help raise the bar. Matthew S

My main gripe with XP weather is how it translates online METAR information to the actual weather depicted in the sim. X-Plane has 3 cloud layers and each of the 3 must be 3000 feet thick. The 2nd cloud layer is 6000 feet above the first and there is a similar gap between the 2nd and the 3rd layer. The METAR conversion never includes any cirrus and startus clouds. If the metar has two layers that are closer than 6000 feet from each other (which is regularly the case) it just creates the second layer 6000' above the first one creating a far from reality weather depiction. Another major gripe is that if there is no reporting station at an airport it would just use the latest loaded instead of weather from the closes METAR station.Did the REX weather engine (online metar depiction) better these issues?Thank you,Alex
August 13, 201015 yr XP-10 may be the best answer IF they correct the items you described. Trying to make a program do things that are not part of its normal functions too often leads to anomalies you uncover after you purchase the addon. I would put the cash in an envelope marked XP-10. You can always try the addon if XP-10 does not natively improve these areas. regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
September 21, 201015 yr Hi all !AVSIM made Real Environment Xtreme for X-Plane review:http://www.avsim.com/pages/0910/REX/REX.htmlThey forgot to say it's only available for Windows users. :( Website for the product:http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/xplane.htmlHappy reading ! :( Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
September 21, 201015 yr Even if XP10 ups the ante, REX would only get that much better. I'm considering it because I know Tim probably wouldn't charge for the upgrade.
September 21, 201015 yr Even if XP10 ups the ante, REX would only get that much better. I'm considering it because I know Tim probably wouldn't charge for the upgrade.I agree, the main problem X-Plane 9 has in terms of environment, is the limited visibility. If X-Plane 10 fixes that, REX-Plane will really come into it's own with it. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
