May 12, 201016 yr So I was biking with my friend on a railroad next to my house, and we found a lot of what we think is left over telegraph wires, but we're not sure. It has 6 flexible grey wires all turning around a rigid grey wire (which confuses me since the wire bends just like any other). And for the chemists here, the rigid wire seems to turn almost black after maybe 5 minutes in 10% hydrochloric acid, and is attracted by magnets (Yes, there were bubbles and hydrogen gas).
May 13, 201016 yr Do you always put things you find in 10% hydrochloric acid? :(Explains my missing sandals from my last trip to Canada. :(
May 13, 201016 yr The core wire is probably just a steel cable for wire strength, not actually transmitting anything, and the wires for signal transduction are wrapped around it. The transmitting wires are probably more fragile and would snap in the wind or in icing conditions. "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
May 13, 201016 yr This brings to mind an odd dream I kept having when I began my flight instruction. I would dream I was taking off in the Allegro, and I'd have to weave my way through a series of power lines to a seemingly impossible altitude. True story, and I wonder if anyone else who flies regularly or has gone through flight instruction has had a similar dream or any odd dream related to the experience of flying.Regards,John

I've lost count of the number of times I've dreamed about being a pilot on a pipeline inspection mission, and having found myself trapped under an apparently unending number of powerlines crossing my flightpath! It's always interesting to go down the street dodging utility wires and trees. Sometimes I even fly into major airports. You should try it- beats the crowds and delays in the real world! What is really remarkable, is that spectators/observers never seem particularly surprised!Do you think I should talk to a doctor?Alex Reid(Yeah I know- "a big flock of them went over that time!")
May 13, 201016 yr Do you always put things you find in 10% hydrochloric acid? :(Well, if I ever see a rather large mushroom cloud on my northern horizon, and any toxic zombies migrating south from Canada, I will know who caused it! I just canceled my trip to Canada! I,m going south instead, . . . . . . way south! :( Similar to Alex's dream, when I was seven or eight I had a dream that I could fly by laying on my back a relaxing and concentrating. So there I was flying around my very small home town, looking down over my shoulder and simply point a finger in the direction I wanted to go. Nothing special there, but the weird part is latter that same summer a neighbor with a Cessna 140 took me up for a ride from the local county airport seven miles from home. When we got to my little home town everything looked exactly the way I had already seen it in the dream, exactly.More recently, I had been flying FS earlier and doing a bunch of work on afcads so this one is easy to figure out. I found myself flying something, most likely a Boeing. After a short while I turned for a approach to some airport and as soon as I got a visual on where the airport was supposed to be, nothing but a big green spot, a curse under my breath, and reached up to the overhead and toggled the 'pause' switch. I then picked up the mike and calmly announced to the passengers that there would be a slight delay before landing because someone had deleted the airport. I went to the FMC which had ADE9X built into it and started designing a airport! Thank goodness I awoke at that point! Do you folks think maybe I should find something else to do for a few days (at least)? :( Best regards to all,MelP.S. No Alex! Do not talk to a doctor! They like to do experiments on people like us.
May 13, 201016 yr You guys are scaring me!!..LOLDon't worry about us. It's the sceptics who are unable to grasp these exotic principles of aerodynamics, who are the problems.Alex Reid
May 13, 201016 yr As Douglas Adams explained in 'The Hitchhiker's Guide', anyone can fly. It just involves you throwing yourself at the ground - and missing.Cheers, SLuggy I do not have a signature. Why are you reading this?

I really appreciate it!And for you guys talking about that hydrochloric acid, all of what you said is nothing compared to what I can achieve with 10% concentrated (yes, that was really stupid sarcasm). Just watch out on what you drink when you come up here, sometimes we'll go for hydrochloric acid instead of melting a bit of our igloos...
