Got new system built...but computer locks up....help.

Featured Replies

I got my parts(see signature)...thanks to you guys and have the system all assembled...but now when I boot into Windows 7 my system will lock up on me sometimes....it is very intermittent. I am suspecting...maybe the Velociraptor...but I don't know. The only thing I have installed on the system is FSX and NOD32...Antivirus. Do you have any ideas of where to start troubleshooting? I am thinking of installing Vista 64 on a spare drive and dual booting...just to rule out the Velociraptor...and go from there. Thanks for any help. Randy

Don't panic yet. Are you using Win7x64? Are you overclocking the 930? Did you try disabling the Anti-virus? What video drivers are you using? Answer these and I will try and help you thru it. Just finished my rig and might be able to help.

If you are using the marvel sata 6gb drivers - disable them. Reformat and reinstall w7. Other than that, give us the info Scott asked for and we can go from there.

I appreciate it guys....No I haven't....but I will try disabling the Antivirus first. Yes...I am using the Marvel Sata Drivers...so I will try disabling them. Yes..I am using Win 7 64 Bit.No...not overclocking..yet.Will reformat and reinstall Win 7 as a last resort. Will let you know what happens when I disable the Antivirus and Remove the Marvel SATA Drivers.

I downloaded the latest Nvidia Video Driver 257.21...still freezes up.Something that is strange....at boot up I get a message:Marvel (88xx..some number I can't remember) Adapter Bios Version ( some number)Disk Information:No hard disk is detectedIs that normal??

Since the last post I have Cleared the CMOS....still freezes. I don't have another video card...but I did put the 470 in another computer and it works fine....so it is not the Video Card. I am narrowing it down.

Randy - since you initially used the Marvel drivers, I would suspect your HDD is corrupt. Your best bet is to format and reinstall Windows being SURE that all Marvel drivers are completely disabled. They are NOT ready to be used and cause many disk problems. When I built my new system using the Marvel drivers I get getting strange crashes and corruption. Ultimately traced it down to Marvel - disabled them - formatted and reinstalledf W7 and haven't had an error since.Vic

There you go, those marvell drivers are bad. I dealt with the same issue, and the only way NickN helped me resolve the issue was by uninstalling those drivers.

Well that didn't do it. It looked real good until I installed FSX and ran it....I got a flight going and then all of a sudden.....LOCK-UP. So I am installing Vista64 on another disk I have to see if that Velociraptor is trash.

Bummer! Well you've eliminated the Marvel drivers as the culprit. I would think that you'd get other errors if the HDD was bad. Run Memtest on each memory stick. Don't check them together - doesn't work - check individually.Any entries in the event viewer?

I have been troubleshooting this sucker most of the night and this am....an it looks like I have 1-Bad Stick of memory and a Bad Hard Drive....Whew!!I replaced my hard drive with another one I had and just put in 1 stick of Memory at a time...it works fine with 2 of the 3 sticks....but that third one.....LOOK OUT....locks up. I am going to run the 2 good sticks with my spare drive for a while...then go back to the VelociRaptor and see if that locks up...if it does...that seals the deal. Event Viewer??...Never thought to check it. Thanks for all your help. Randy

So....will Jetline Computers take this $1700 pile of junk in on trade.....you think???About the time I think I have figured this out something new happens. I have my extra hard drive in with Win 7 installed and the 2 good Mem Chips and FSX installed and it seems to be running ok, but in Device Manager I am getting a yellow ! saying I need to install USB Drivers....so I install the Drivers that are on the CD and hook up my Saitek X52 controller and BAM.....lockup. I uninstall the Drivers and then try it and it appears to be working ok....then I try and adjust the size of the FSX Screen and BAM.....lockup. I AM Going Nuts here. Could this be a Motherboard problem??

Randy

Did you update to the latest BIOS for the mainboard and installed all the drivers from the ASUS website? Meaning chipset, USB, network (I don't use itegrated audio)? I think I don't have Marvell SATA running, though I do have my main drivers on the 6GB ports, and the rest is running off the normal ones.If you want to test the memory, run the Memtest the whole night with all sticks and see what happens. If bad, then test singles...In windows I suggest running Furmark + Orthos to check for the stability, monitoring temperatures, I see you didn't really monitor those. If it's a complete Jetline system, then they must take it back for inspection and change parts as necessary, as under Guarantee.
