June 19, 201015 yr I accidently left gear down during a climb to 37000ft after takeoff (forgot to retract as i got distracted) Wasnt till i did view from the outside that i noticed gear down at 20000ft.Cant believe there wasnt aural warning/bell/siren or indicator to tell me gear left down - shouldnt i get some sort of alert especially when im at 20,000 and gear is down !!? June 20, 201015 yr You do get some sort of alert, it's called the after take off checklist. :( Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 20, 201015 yr Author Fair call chock!! Was thinking more as you get an alert 'gear down too low' but not one when your too high and gear, that sort of thing if you know what i mean. Jeff Blyth MD11 J41 747 NGX . . awaiting 777 !!!
June 20, 201015 yr That's why I like the 737, it has that checklist on the little plate on the yoke with the sliding aid memoir pointer on it!Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 20, 201015 yr You should notice a problem with the climb rate or speed depending on AFCS mode. Get in the habit of knowing what the numbers should be and watch them. Dan Downs KCRP

June 21, 201015 yr Commercial Member Jeff, with gear down you should definitely realise that you can not go to your planned climb speed (because of the gear speed limit). You will see the red overspeed tape coming very soon. If you don't realise this then I'm afraid your briefing was inadequate, you should always be ahead of your aircraft, meaning you should know your climb speed according to the FMC ;)Markus Markus Burkhard
June 21, 201015 yr That's the trouble with a lot of automation in cockpits, it lulls pilots into a false sense of security that nothing could possibly be wrong and pushes simple 'stick and rudder sense' out of the window on occasion. It's a phenomenon that causes some concern in the real aviation world.I tend not to forget to put the gear up because I usually automatically think of it when a positive rate of climb is achieved, but I quite often don't remember to move the gear handle to the off position until I look on a checklist.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 21, 201015 yr I never forget to put the gear up, I Just sometimes tap the button twice on the joystick and it ends up not moving. Sure I should double check the gear handle location too though, but single pilot ops on a large jumbo is quite a workload!
June 22, 201015 yr Commercial Member A big memory item is the big, clear knob in the center of the panel pointing down. As far as aural warnings go, there are none. Checklists are your friend. If the issue isn't forgetting and the gear still gets left down, then the issue is less forgetting and more assuring. Both lead to a damaged ego and wasted fuel. In the same manner, putting the gear lever in the down position and not assuring the gear is down by the greens is as bad as leaving the gear up. Both put you on the ground with no wheels.Kyle Kyle Rodgers
June 22, 201015 yr Author Thanks to all above, i realise all the above and thanks for all your replys, my post was for the reason that cant believe no aural warning - but i guess in real life there would be no reason for it as they wouldnt forget that or the checklists.
