Unwanted colors in the scenery and cockpit.

Featured Replies

Hi Folks, I am an almost 73 year old flight simmer, who needs some HELP. I am have been using FS9 for many years. In fact I started simming with PRO PILOT '99. I have never had this problem before. When I am flying, I get Bloches of various color in the scenery, which comes and goes. Sometime these colors are in a pattern, dashes or dots, (yellow, red, green, orange, blue), they are four to six colums wide and eight rows high. In the cockpit I get regular patterns of these dots on the screen. I have uninstalled and installed FS9 twice, to no avale. I have run several tests on my graphic card and this passed. I love to sim, but this driving me crazyyy. Any help would be appreciated.

While it certainly sounds like a Graphics Card related issue, there are several other possibilities - none of which would have required a un-install/re-install of FS9. That should be the absolute last resort in my opinion.Have you tried renaming your FS9.cfg file to something like FS9.cfg BAK (to disable it) and allowing FS to rebuild a fresh new one with all of the default settings when you restart the sim? Sometimes doing that will "fix" problems which otherwise seem unfixable. Also, when is the last time you opened the case and blew out the accunlated dust - particularily around the graphic card? It could be a heat related issue.Just a couple of ideas. Good Luck!P.S. I am 75.

David, I can't seem to locate the FS9.cfg file. Could you show me how to find it? ThanksGeorge

Config file is usually located somewhere like this:C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9Al

And remember it is a "hidden" file so be sure you have you search engine set to search in hidden files and folders also.

Hi David and AL, I finally found the FS9.cfg file, Thanks. I renamed it to FS9.cfg BAK ( 11.2KB), then started the sim. It build a new FS9.cfg (9.48KB). This still didn't fix my problem with the various colors. I haven't removed the side access panel to blow out the computer yet. Thanks for all of your help. Any other suggestions to try?George Clark

A shot in the dark George. But is your screen set to 16bit colors? Either in your windows control panel or even with in the sim.It must be set to 32bit colors or you will get banding and so on.

It really sounds like the graphics card is either overheating (or otherwise unable to cope)... it probably isn't from FS itself... I once had some very strange orange blocks, in an ordered pattern, showing up when I was trying to overclock my graphics card a little too far..! I reduced back to stock speeds and all was fine.As previously advised, check that there is adequate cooling on your card - ie. the fan / case is not choked with dust? If it all seems clean and cool in there, perhaps the graphics driver is corrupted somehow - have a check of your settings and perhaps reinstall the drivers.Out of interest, what driver version are you running?Cheers,Geoff

Hello ThereI had a similar problem to yours but not in fs2004.I have been tinkering around with FS2002 recently and when I set Anti Aliasing in my graphics card (GForce 6600)FS2002 displayed all sorts of weird and wonderful colours until I turned AA (in my card)of again.Have you been tweaking or altering settings in your GCard recently?I don't know if its the right thing or not,but have you thought about a system restore.(to a date before the colour problems)In the case of horrid FS glitches all things are worth a try. These problems(I currently have a horrid which means my PC just stops and locks mid-flt,no error messages nothing meaning a restart from scratch.REALLY annoying.)are just part of the suffering we as simmers go through (seemingly on a daily basis at the moment) :( Cheers Andy

Yes, probably overheating.. open the pc case and remove dust, especially on the cooling fans, of both cpu and video card, and the cooling ribs with it.You will be amazed how much dust a pc gathers!

Hi , this is a definately Graphics Card issue , Please uninstall your current graphic drivers (clean from registry also , use drive sweeper from www.guru3d.com recommended) and Download latest or Stable Graphic drivers . Or else install drivers from the Driver CD you'v got with Graphics card . I have had the same issue and i resolved it .This will definitely resolve your issue .However i would like you to mention you System Config with Current Graphic Drivers Version. Thanks
