Aerosoft's Mega Amsterdam

Featured Replies

Thank your Benjamin van Soldt for a brilliant review on this Aerosoft Mega Amsterdam airport offering. Now I not only know why my Aerosoft Mega London takes an FPS hit on a powerful machine, but I was contemplating purchasing this Amsterdam Mega Airport addon to augment my Mega Frankfurt. Now you have saved me what would have turned out to be a disappointment.I think for the time being I'll stick to NL2000 v4.A solid,well-researched review and as someone familiar with all the roads you quoted,a well put together Review.Well Done.Excellent

Thanks for the very kind comment :(

Rick, if you're still looking for a Heathrow scenery that's good on frames I would recommend UK2000's version. They don't have a great website, but the sceneries are amongst the best there is.

I don't understand why the reviewer didn't turn off NL2000 v4? I hardly believe it takes away just 2 FPS. How can he say the performance is good.. with 9 FPS? I read posts here at AVSIM from people on i7@4GHz who had even poorer FPSs than the reviewer, which is strange... maybe the reviewer had all sliders to the left? And no mention about scenery being unusable at night if you have Acceleration... was this solved?

I am using FS9. I have sent the editor an email, asking him to amend the review so that it is clear that I have not reviewed the FSX version. At the time of writing, the FSX version was not available yet. I had made this clear in the review, by adding statements such as "the FSX version was not released yet at the time of writing", but these were subsequently taken away when the review got published because, obviously, the FSX version was released about a week before the review was published. I have now sent an email to the editor, asking him if he could amend the review so that it is clear that I have reviewed the FS9 version, not the FSX version.I'm afraid that's the way it is... When reviews get sent out to the editor and when they get posted, there's a time gap and if something happens with the title review in the mean time, it will not end up in the review. This is such a case. I can only apologize for the inconvenience, and hope that the editor will soon amend the review so that it is clear that I reviewed the FS9 version only.About NL2000v3: If you look at the screenshots, you'll also see screenshots where NL2000v3 was not on. I have tested the scenery with NL2000 ON and OFF, and have seen that turning it on only gave me 2 to 4 FPS difference, generally.EDIT: I have received word from the editor that it has been amended.

Thank you for your suggestion, but I am aware of the UK2000 scenery, and fully agree with you that as a scenery addon, for FS9.it is first-class,but am not sure if it will work with my FSX.It works splendidly in FS9.Moreover,on the basis that Aerosoft's Mega Frankfurt worked well in FS9,I bought the Mega Heathrow because it was FS9/FSX,and had a bit more to it than UK2000,so was looking at the Mega Amsterdam as a follow-on,until I read the excellent review.I think I'll hang on to my pennies for now.

UK2000 works very well in FSX, probably will have better FPS than Mega Airport Heathrow, plus it is regularly updated. There is to be a free updated released in the coming time, although I'm not sure exactly when.

Unfortunately,my UK2000 scenery does not install in FSX as it is looking for either the FS2002 or the FS9 directory, neither of which are my default Flight Sims, thus cannot be installed. Is there a patch for it?

Rick Almeida

Have you downloaded the latest version for FSX? I think it is a separate download IIRC.

That means you do not have the FSX version downloaded. You are trying to install the FS9 version into FSX... There are two version available for download: one for FSX and one for FS9:http://www.uk2000scenery.com/newsite/My_Ho...les/Page17.htmlI recommend downloading both the FS9 and FSX version again, so you know for sure you have the newest versions of the airports for both FS versions.

Thanks for the heads-up on this.I'd wondered why it would not work, but now thanks to you guys,I know why.

Rick Almeida

I thought it was about FSX version. Now it makes more sense.
No problem, I understand where the confusement came from. The review is amended now, so it should be clear to future readers.

Sadly though, us Avsim reviewers have to be slightly more comprehensive than that...
