July 26, 201015 yr Commercial Member I'm just getting back to flying airliners after a long spell flying analogue a/c like the RealAir Duke.I've noticed that the screens on the MD11 (same on the 744 too) are very shimmery. I run a GTX 280 on the 257.21 drivers. Today, to try to combat the problem, I got rid of the BP=0 tweak, and tried out NickN's nhancer workaround, running C8xS AA. I really can't discern any difference within the VC. The tweak has been applied correctly as far as I can see from looking outside and at the 'shadowed' red text.Could you have a look at the following screenshot and youtube video and tell me if there's an issue? I have a feeling I'm just going mad and that there's nothing actually wrong, I just remember screenshots being more clear, and the effect while moving in the VC just doesn't strike me as right somehow.Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/6vs3P.jpg (Didn't embed it as it's full 1920x1200)Video: The shimmer on the displays is most obvious towards the end of the video. Thanks! Nick Collett i5 2500k @ 4.4GHz, GTX 480, 8GB Corsair 8-8-8-24, 300GB WD Velociraptor, Corsair HX850W
July 26, 201015 yr I see absolutley nothing wrong in your video. You will always have some amount of shimmer. The video of your VC looks normal.Regards,Bob
July 27, 201015 yr Commercial Member Yeah it looks great, I cant even tell what shimmering you're talking about Noah Bryant
July 27, 201015 yr You're going to have that.... zoomed out that far the gauges will always be shimmery... it's an effect but I forgot what it's called, maybe moire:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moir%C3%A9_pattern | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
July 27, 201015 yr Most awesome graphics. Doesn't get better than that. And what Ryan already said: can't get rid of that, no matter how high your AA is.
July 27, 201015 yr Commercial Member Video card antialiasing doesn't affect the screens, which are technically 2D objects - there's already GDI+ antialiasing applied to the screens, which smooths the edges of the fonts and lines etc. What's happening when you zoom way out is that you're trying to represent smaller features on the screens than the pixels on your monitor can actually display, so it aliases (aka shimmer). Absolutely no way around this other than a higher resolution display.UsePools=0 has absolutely nothing to do with aliasing btw. July 27, 201015 yr Author Commercial Member Thanks for the replies guys, appreciate your expertise.Ryan - the reason I mentioned usepools is that I cannot run nhancer + that tweak at the same time because the added AA is just too much for my GPU.On a side note - I noticed that after having removed the usepools line, my ground textures loaded much faster and I wasn't finding myself flying over half loaded textures as was common with the tweak applied. Why is this? What steps could I take to reduce texture blurring with usepools? I noticed a nearly 10fps drop after removing the tweak so would ideally like to go back to how things were! Nick Collett i5 2500k @ 4.4GHz, GTX 480, 8GB Corsair 8-8-8-24, 300GB WD Velociraptor, Corsair HX850W

July 27, 201015 yr Author Commercial Member Start by reading:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=281538 Don't worry I've spent FAR more time reading about these tweaks and fiddling with them over the last months than I have flying, and I've flown a lot! That's been the unfortunate reality for me, though I've stuck with the same cfg/drivers etc for the last few weeks and have been happy, apart from the slow loading textures. Nick Collett i5 2500k @ 4.4GHz, GTX 480, 8GB Corsair 8-8-8-24, 300GB WD Velociraptor, Corsair HX850W
July 28, 201015 yr Cirrus22,It's quite simple if you are using the UePools=0 tweak and you have slow loading textures, then your system is being over taxed which means you need to back your sliders off or possibly get rid of some other tweaks.
