August 15, 201015 yr Commercial Member Hi, I decided to do a re install and it is not going smoothly. Firstly, I had issues getting my old install uninstalled - but its gone. I have not installed the various planes and utilities and addons individually, there are too many, and I also made a copy of the old install.I re installed FSX, but when I did so, after I installed it, i noticed the root folder was called microsoft games, not Microsoft flight simulator X, so I renamed it accordingly. Then I thought that was not wise, as registry entries etc would not be correct, so changed it back.I activated FSX and then went on to try and install acceleration, but got an error saying it needed the english version of FSX ( which I have!) and would not let me install. So, I thought I would uninstall FSX again and start again, ensuring I had the folder named correctly from the start ( I am not installing to the default path BTW) However now, when I put in the DVD, I dont get the repair or remove options to uninstall it and I also cannot see the game in the control panel list of programmes to remove from there. So, I am a bit stuck. Can any one help? How can I uninstall properly? How can I avopid the acceleartion error?Cheers, Mark
August 15, 201015 yr I don't know if this will help you or not. Worth a try. http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspxI also do not have an entry in Control Panel for FSX, only the SPs.Good luck. Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
August 15, 201015 yr Author Commercial Member Thx Bobby, but my problem is that FSX does not appear as described in the add remove programs section or give me the option when I insert the DVD......

I'm pretty sure you can fine the fix on MS's website but the same utility is available at Flightsim.com. Check their FSX Utilities section. You'll see one that resets the registry so that you can reinstall. So, after you delete the FSX directory and the FSX sections in My Documents and User Apps, you should be good to go. Unfortuantely I'm at work at the moment and can't take to time to find the file for you myself to link it.Rich
August 15, 201015 yr Author Commercial Member I managed to uninstall what I had by manually deleting then using regedit to delete any references to microsoft games. I tried installing againbut right at the end got an error message saying "Error 0x80040702 failed to load dll gameuxinstallerhelper"when I pressed ok, I got the install flash screen, saying "wizard was interrupted before FSX could be completely installed"I appeared to have a complete installation, but the funny thing is that despite at the start of the install process manually directing the installation to the empty Microsoft flight Simulator X" folder I had created, the game installed to a folder it made itself, called microsoft games. When i looked im the folder I had made, it had a folder called fonts in it and and install log file, but nothing else. Now I still cannot get it to uninstall the proper way by inserting the disk, or by using the control panel.I found a file called mskb928080 at flight sim for problems installing the deluxe version. Is that what you meant? i have the gold version. Cheers, Mark ( beginning to think that a fresh install was not such a great idea after all....)
August 15, 201015 yr The MS Games is the default location where FSX installs. You might try deleting everything again and letting it install to its default location where it is usually very happy. Jay
August 15, 201015 yr ...I found a file called mskb928080 at flight sim for problems installing the deluxe version. Is that what you meant? i have the gold version. ...I just checked and that's the download. I think the file itself, once you unpack it, is: Resetsldl.exe.... the funny thing is that despite at the start of the install process manually directing the installation to the empty Microsoft flight Simulator X" folder I had created, the game installed to a folder it made itself, called microsoft games. When i looked im the folder I had made, it had a folder called fonts in it and and install log file, but nothing else....It's been awhile since I last reinstalled FSX. I have always installed it to a directory of my choosing rather than the default. It seems to me that the proper way to change the installation directory, though, was to change the way FSX installed right from the start. I've forgotten what it was called. But, if you got to the screen showing where it wanted to put it, it was already too late to make a change. Wish my memory of it was better. Unfortunately I won't be near my computer for several days.Rich

John Rig: Gigabyte B550 AORUS Master Motherboard, AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT CPU, 32GB DDR4 Ram, Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super Graphics, Samsung Odyssey wide view display (5120 x 1440 pixels) with VSYNC on.
August 16, 201015 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Guys, thats what I did, I have previously installed FSX several times and never had these issues. You choose the "more options" tab to change the default install path and manually browse to wherever you want in installed. I created an empty folder called Micrsoft Flight simulator X and pointed it there. Part of the install wen tin there ( a fonts folder and an install log file) then it made its own folder called Miucrosoft games and installed the rest of the game to that.Something is not right as when you install, it kind of "fast forwarded" through the splash screen photos you get while it installs and at the end , I get the error message about the install.I have removed it manually twice now and removed all stuff in the registry and all files relating to FSX and installed again, but still the same result.I am beginning to think of a Re format of windows..BTW, I dont use system restore, so thats not an optionCheers, Mark
August 16, 201015 yr I am beginning to think of a Re format of windows..In my opinion that is the only true correct way to reinstall FSX, as you have found out the hard way it is too easily messed up using the repair option or trying a reinstall. Take your time and follow Nick Needhams tips on how to install everything correctly, otherwise you will end up with a sub-optimal install and performance problems in the future. Cheers, Andy.
August 16, 201015 yr Hi, I had the exact same error message when trying to re-install FSX. Search google for "Windows CleanUp Installer". Very small program. I installed and ran the program. FSX installed without the error. Hope that helps out. Mike Teel KMGM

I think that it this may be a good time to go over to win7 on a fresh install...... I have been thinking about it for a while and this may be just the excuse I need...
