Put your confusion to rest. He was bashing it in this forum as well as in PM's to me.

Shall I quote a few people.Bernt Stolle, perhaps. Maybe I should quote his PM's to me. And his thoughts on X Plane. I can tell you, he didn't say what you are saying. That, I can assure you of. He even chose to hide under the username of SG38, thinking he wouldn't be found out.Don't kid yourself, "Mountain Man". There is bashing going on, and plenty of it. Maybe not by you, but definitely by others.Goran
As it turns out, just as this thread was moving along a few weeks ago, "MilVis" (Military Visualizations) was getting ready to release their new Cessna 310R for FSX. Now that it's out, it's been highly applauded for it's excellent "engine out" characteristics for a twin engine GA airplane. I didn't know it at the time, but Bernt Stolle is responsible for programming the 310R's flight dynamics. I do know that Bernt has worked on FS9/FSX & X-Plane models for quite a number of years, as well as being an airline pilot. The actual 310R owner/pilot was also involved in the MilViz program all along. In fact, this simulated airplane was put together with a group of individuals who have had very much experience over the years with addon aircraft from various companies. And here lies the problem. I'll see FSX "trashed" quite often on X-Plane forums such as the org. There is little opposition there. There are so many threads over at the org., in which an individual states that they have jumped from MSFS to X-Plane, and can't believe how good the "flight dynamics" are. When I see these types of postings, it's my opinion that they've never flown a real plane, or that they certainly haven't tried so many of the excellent addons that are available for FS9/FSX. If so, they wouldn't be trashing "FSX". I believe they just get into the "hype" that X-Plane has to be better because of it's use of "blade element theory". I fly real planes, Bernt flys real planes, and numerous other members of AVSIM fly real planes. As it turns out, we all still find that FSX is very capable of replicating real aircraft response........when programmed by experts.Therefor, instead of bashing X-Plane directly, we'll just say that this AVSIM forum is kind of an "anti FSX bashing" forum (when required)............to oppose that of the org. :) Private E-mails should remain just as they are.........private. Did you know that Milviz wanted to develop for x plane and asked me to help them? But that's another dinner.Re Bernt Stolle, I question his statements. After searching the org download manager, I could not find a single acf file he made. And after repeatedly asking him to show me what he made with the possibility of me possibly tweaking it to make it work properly, he has never sent me anything. Nor have I seen a single screenshot or any evidence whatsoever of anything he has made for x plane. Re the FSX trashing in the org forums...I haven't seen it in the 18 months I have been developing for x plane. But even if it does go on over there, at least it's in the proper forums. I doubt any x plane developer would care less if X Plane was trashed in a forum. But doing it in an X Plane forum is nothing short of trolling. Lastly, you mentioned that you, Bernt and numerous avsim staff fly real planes. So do I, Tom Kyler, and many others associated with x plane. But, we have a little extra. Most of us have engineering qualifications and degrees. Bottom line, this debate could drag on for years with neither team letting go and both teams proving their points in one way or another. Those of us who enjoy X Plane do so for a reason. We don't want people coming along and telling us it's "all hype" and "Austin doesn't know what he's talking about", "Blade element theory is a load of crap". Can't we just enjoy both sims without the comparisons and without the slander. It would be a much better community without all the mudslinging. Perhaps even a little friendly banter thrown in.

Bernt S made a CRJ once, but I don't think he ever released it. He was one of several pilots testflying our 757 at one point, but he kind of "vanished".I have great respect for Bernt as a pilot, but he is not a "designer" and hasn'tany record of achievements that I know of that makes him any special in that regard. After many years designing for XP, we've had dozens of professional pilots testing our acf.In most cases (not all) these pilots have very "elementary" knowledge about aerodynamics and far lessany idea of how XP works. Without any technical background chances of a top resultwith regards to flightmodel in x-plane is close to zero. The future generation of top XP aircraft like the coming IXEG B737 will be "hybrids".It is based on XP's blade element theory, but in addition we use "lookup tables" (plugins)to adjust the flightmodel in areas where XP's model has weaknesses. This is a VERY powerful combination! It however requires extensive knowledge aboutthe aircraft you are making, aerodynamics and XP's flightmodel.M

I have to say, your 757, and 767, does fly pretty well within the flight envelope, probably the best airliner in X-Plane! It's outside that things get weird. I guess though in the scheme of things that really doesn't matter, if you fly it properly. I just can't get used to using the Flight Director to turn on the AP. LOL.gif

Thanks

Is it possible to create generic plug-in that uses lookup tables completely and maybe even reads the FDE format of FSX planes. This would allow a user to "plug-in" an existing well tested flight model from the FSX world. So for example I have the default XP 747-400 using the FDE for the FSX PMDG 747-400.

Don't let Austin catch you wanting to import FSX look-up tables into X-Plane. His head might explode. :(

No, we can modify XP's flightmodel, but we cant replace it.M

Yes, us super duper pilots do sometimes argue with the engineer's view of things. We're usually right, of course! :( L.Adamson

I think up to now it has been an apples/oranges argument. Both sims do things differently, so how can one really compare? But imho things have changed as of late.We now have Rex for fsx/fs4 and Rex for Xplane-so we can compare. We have Reality Xp GNS for Fsx/fs9 and Xplane-so we can compare. We have a high quality Duchess for Xplane and one for Fsx-so we can compare....and now we will now have direct compares of Carenado products on fsx in compare with the same products on Xplane.Should get interesting and all good for the consumer...:(

So...........when do we get a good constant speed prop....braking action, for either sim?I'm tired of having to slow down miles out, as though I have a fixed pitch... L.Adamson

You mean to tell me you don't have the Duchess I made, Larry????
