August 21, 201015 yr This seem to be happening a bit more than usual lately and there are several threads about this here at AVSIM. Did you try a search before posting? Here's the most recent that I know of:[/url]http://forum.avsim.net/topic/293623-incorrect-compass-readings-in-fs9/ Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. August 21, 201015 yr Author HiYes I tried to search, but without success.I tried also with magdec.bgl.After copying new magdec.bgl file, all was OK, but after fs9 restart, again same problem. After hours of trying to solve problem I made restore of my PC, from previous state. After that everything works OK. I installed few more scenerys missing after making restore. So far so god.Really I don't know what is the source of problem, because I have same scenerys as before and now all works OKEdin
August 21, 201015 yr Try this - it completely solved the problem when I had it and I think it's a permanent fix if you install any other sceneries that cause the problem to happen again. Put the magdec.bgl file in the scenery file at the top level of your scenery. (i.e. the last entry in your scenery file). In my case that is AES/scenery as to run AES it always has to have top priority. When I did this it got rid of the problem without me having to mess around with addon sceneries trying to figure out which one caused the problem. Good luck...
August 22, 201015 yr If I'm not mistaken the magnetic variation problem can be caused byFS2002 afcads in FS2004.So check for those as well.
August 22, 201015 yr putting my magdec.bgl in my addon scenery/scenery folder solved my problem. Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. August 22, 201015 yr putting my magdec.bgl in my addon scenery/scenery folder solved my problem.I don't really know why this discussion is being repeated here because we are re-covering ground already discussed at http://forum.avsim.net/topic/293623-incorrect-compass-readings-in-fs9/ .Putting the magdec.bgl into Addon Scenery/Scenery may solve the problem sometimes, but not if there is an addon scenery causing the problem which will be at a higher priority. I'm not questioning that it solved your specific problem but kiwiflyer45's suggestion (which was originally my idea!) is better as it should over-ride all potential issues. August 23, 201015 yr I should have added in my post that I got the idea from someone else on the forum. Sorry John - I certainly didn't mean to take credit for the help you gave to me! All the guys on that thread were incredibly helpful but it was your suggestion that really solved the issue permanently for me.BTW guys - John Hinson (see post above) is an excellent scenery designer and really knows his stuff. I especially love his Wake Island scenery - it's a real keeper for me! Brings back all the ambience of some of the Pacific islands I used to fly into "back in the day." Ahhh - the memories! :(

In particular, Wake Island isn't my work so the pat on the back belongs to somebody else . . .Best wishes,John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org

Well, you still deserve a pat on the back for what you have contributed. Yours is a name I recognized as someone who has authored sceneries that I have downloaded. (MAIW???) I guess I'll just put it down to one of those "senior moments" that I'm starting to have. :(
