Guys, Guys, Guys,Do yourselves a HUGE favor and invest in a Track IR by Naturalpoint. If you haven't seen one on action, go to the Naturalpoint.com website and check out the video. I REFUSE to fly any simulation without it! And you'll wonder how you ever did without it too!Terry Swindle (realworld airline pilot)

Zero, in fact I would say it makes the Sim 'Appear' smoother and more fluid

You may as well get 5 if it's brand new, I've been using 4 for years now but have the version 5 software installed. I don't see a point in upgrading until it dies on me.

It does appear smoother compared to using a hat switch in vc mode - a lot smoother actually! Regarding different versions, I didn't notice much of a difference between trackIR 3 and 5. However getting the track clip pro made a huuge difference since the view without the device could be jumping around even if I kept my head totally still.

Rob - you know i've never tried that but I will give it a shot. I will try using the iPad like this and let you know what happens, but I still dont think it will work.

Noah, I have my fs9 computer set up like Rob but it is a no go getting eg an fmc to work on the ipad using Air Display when in full screen mode. I also first go to windowed mode, drag the fmc to the ipad and then go back to full screen. The display simply goes black. On my second, 22" monitor it of course works. I also chatted witht avitrons support and they confirmed it wouldn't work. That leaves us with running in windowed mode only...

Also, another tip that i use on the 747:I use the camera shift buttons (ctrl+Enter, ctrl + backspace, ctrl+shift+Enter and ctrl+shift+backspace) to get into my own custom 'default' view - normally with a nice zoom setting, with a good view of all the essential gauges.I then follow the instructions to save my 'new' camera into FSX, so i can pan about all day long, and then use ctrl+space to snap back to my custom default camera:http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Change_cameras_views

Hi Terry, how is the impact of Track ir on framerates???MoritzHi Moritz,As stated above, no impact on frame rates. Natural Point's slogan is " Put your head in the game." It really does put you in the simulation and make you feel like you're in the cockpit. People ask me ask the time if I have a multi monitor set up. I tell them that with Track IR I really don't feel the need for such a set up. Track IR eliminates that need for me. You really will love it!Hope this helps!Terry Swindle

I got Air Display also yesterday. Got it to work it work with the main DU and the FMC. Wonderful immersion to type on the FMC. The only thing missing now is iOS4.2 and multitasking. The iPad used to be my PDF checklist reader. We need multitask to keep AirDisplay running and fliping to fskneeboard or a PDF reader for map/checklist lookup./Vincent Rouleau

I was in the MD-11 last night and was actually having flash backs of when I was a 2D only guy. They are not fond memories anymore and took me a while to get use to the VC. I was forced into making the switch but very glad I was or I would still be a 2D flyer. I recently installed the payware program EZCA and if you're up for the learning and tweaking it, it will add a ton to your visual experience and they just made views cyclable by keypress/button which finally makes it as most of us expected from the start...Anywho, I look back at my 2D days and so very glad they're behind me. It's amazing how detailed the VC and how better my simming experience is because of it. I do of course reiterate that I was forced into it, and prior to that had tried it time and time again but reverted back to 2D. I also understand those that do 2D for lower systems.@Richard:When I first got TR5 I also got very, very dizzy. Like Rob mentioned there are ways to tweak it but the main thing is really just getting use to it. It took a while but now no longer have any issues at all and I'm surrounded with 76.5" of screen in front of me (horizontal). As for FPS hit and TR5, like others have mentioned there is no FPS hit on my end either. A huge reason some people think there is a dramatic hit isn't because they use Track IR, it's because they are using the VC for the first time and it does have a difference in itself on your FPS.

Hi, Dan-mate!I'm starting to move into the VC world as well and thinking of TrackIR. What problems did you have initially? Not necessarily with the hardware, more like getting used to it? Also, my main screen is slightly higher than eye level. Would this be an issue?

Hi Adrian-mate :( I too sit well below the resting place of my Track IR unit and I think it actually enhances your experience. If you were at the same height as the actual IR receiver you would disconnect or lose its line of sight easier. I can sit up in my chair and rarely break contact. This isn't an issue anyway and doesn't cause problems.I have lost patience over the years with both hardware and software so that said, the only problem I had was taking the needed few minutes to learn the GUI and that was really pretty painless. My TrackIR profile is a slightly modified one I downloaded from their website and seems to work great for me. If anyone wants it I'll make it available,,, although I will now have to learn how to export it :PAs I mentioned above, the only issue was the dizzy factor and getting use to it. I litterally have 76" of screen in front of me so turn my head more than most people would need to so imagine the dizziness factor was a lot more severe in my case since to look in the menu area for example, I would nearly have to turn my head 60 degrees or more.
