October 4, 201015 yr Does it appear that way regardless of the time of year you are flying there?Try all of the seasons (if you have not already done so) and report back please.
October 4, 201015 yr Does it appear that way regardless of the time of year you are flying there?Try all of the seasons (if you have not already done so) and report back please.Thanks.Yes. Season changes do not seem appear to make much difference overall.Certainally no differance to the countryside grass.Tried changing the grass texture [detail1].It only works for a few 'park' areas around town, which are already green grass by default.see attachment ; for northside airport fence.[a small park ajoins airfield]Tried putting every slider in scenery up to maxium-but still no difference.
October 4, 201015 yr There are many scenery addons for Australia. Both the AVSIM Library, and Google would be your friend in this case. No sense in re-inventing the wheel. Someone has probably already made improvements to the countryside there.Dick
October 4, 201015 yr You say you are new to FSX. Do you have SP1 and SP2 or Acceleration installed? Art
October 4, 201015 yr You say you are new to FSX. Do you have SP1 and SP2 or Acceleration installed? Not as yet.I'am not really into the multiplayer thing or Airliners or High flying & only flying in the pacific region mostly. What are the main other advantages of SP1 & 2 and acceleration?I'am fairly happy with the normal deluxe FSX as it is, [except for the lack of grass across the countryside and 10m terrain mesh would be nice]Is Thomas Trewin's mesh of Australia [on Simviation] 10m? [it does not say as far as I can see without downloading it all]ThanksRegards
October 4, 201015 yr It's been a long time, but something fixed the desert look in FSX, and I'm thinking that it might have been SP2. I don't know how new your copy of FSX is, but if it doesn't indicate that it includes SP1 and SP2 updates, you need to download and install them from the Microsoft web site (even if it doesn't fix your issue). I also mentioned Acceleration because it already includes the updates. Art
October 5, 201015 yr In FS X, Australia consists of 3 regions: - Australia (G) which is mostly everything except the central desert regions and the North; - Australia Red (X) the deserts, Simpson etc.; - Australia Queensland (Y) as the name indicates.Ground textures can be different depending on the region; for example, the desert areas are very red whereas the others can be a dry green in Spring and Summer.Normally, FS X will display Australia as somewhat or very red and dry in Fall and Winter, and in most of the country it should show as dry green in the rest of the year.If you are quite certain that you have changed the season to Spring or Summer and still cannot display greenish ground, then something is very wrong with your installation and you should check whether you have third-party addons that have modified the textures. The yellow ground under airports is the intended appearance and is supposed to reflect the look of grass in the dry season. This was not modified in any way by subsequent Service Packs.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
October 5, 201015 yr Hello All.Thanks very much for the helpful hintsWhere are the Australian textures [i do not see any in the scenery folder]?I'll poss try a reinstall and Acceleration later to see what happends.Any more help would be appreciated.Regards
October 5, 201015 yr Decided to go for a little fly above Australia with my grass texture problem.Found that all the grass textures for southern and central and west Queensland are missing up to about Cairns. And a strip of missing grass textures across to Broome just below Katherine. What parts in the Australian scenery folders would that be? Which ones in the scenery folder should I reload? or modify?Or is it a problem in another area? Its been like it from the start [before I added any extra aircraft]see attachments;Regards
October 5, 201015 yr George, what you see is what FSX thinks Australia looks like. I don't have addon scenery for that continent, and I see the same thing. I think you need addon scenery to correct it if it is not correct. You are not missing any textures. That's dead grass. Art
October 5, 201015 yr Thanks George. You've captured the Problem in one shot. They have used the wrong textures for central/eastern Queensland and central northern Australia. Sounds like its the default setting for FSX, so Reloading or adding SP1 or SP2 or Acc will probably not fix it.[Very Dissappointing], for those of us that live in that area. Please, does anybody know what and where to change in the cfg files in the scenery folder to make FSX use the S/E or far N/E Australian green grass textures to replace of the desert look for Queensland and central Northern Territory? Also, thanks Art_P for your helpful observations and advise. Its a fairly sparsely populated area where the dead grass is in that area all year round. so I doubt anybody will bother with must scenery upgrades. The only hope I think is modifying the scenery cgf file or something simular.Regards
