September 16, 200322 yr I've flown FS9 since the day it came out and I'm still amazed at the things they put in here.Today I was fying from Idaho Falls Regional to Boeing Field (Seattle) around 7:30 pm local time. I was flying towards the sun and, amazingly, I started to get a headache looking at the sun :-sun1. I was really amazed. I really felt like I needed sunglasses :-cool. I didn't even have the brightness on my monitor turned up. Maybe it's my subconscious mind playing tricks on me:D.Ah well. I love FS9 even with all the things going on with it.
September 16, 200322 yr Still amazes me too :-)And another thing amazes me, or perhaps it shouldn't. Post a positive remark as you have done and you hardly get any replies. But I bet if you had complained about how much MS had got the sun wrong and how much FS9 was sucking as a result this thread would have grown to enormous lengths :-hmmmDavid
September 16, 200322 yr :-lolhow true, but FS doesnt have the corner on the whine market. I see it everywhere, in all sorts of forums. Its impossible to help these people out of their funk, some sort of deep seeded emotional scars Im guessing. Just have to keep up your positive outlook.oh and dont try and convince them of their shortcomings, or you will be bansihed to the fourth corner of the world. and MS got that wrong too. :-loljoe
September 16, 200322 yr Yep I know what you mean..I was looking for the north east corner of the world and just kept looking and looking and looking....You think they would have got that right !!!!! :-)

September 16, 200322 yr FS2004 may not be perfect, but I am sure enjoying the heck out of it. It is an amazing piece of software when you look at the overall package. I hope the folks that can't get it to run well get it worked out as they are missing a great experience.Tony
September 16, 200322 yr I was flying the C182 on a short flight from Santa Monica to Santa Barbara last night with the time set at dusk and it was really great. When I landed at Santa Barbara I just sat there looking at the sunset like you would in real life and was amazed at the picture on the screen. This is a great piece of software and the people who are complaining are missing out on the many good things that are build into this sim. It runs very smooth on my computer and I have had no problems with it. Its the people with problems who do the most posting and that's the way it should be. The forums are here to help them. I suspect that the majority are just flying and having fun.Richard
September 16, 200322 yr So true guys! I work in a service industry and talk to all kinds of people daily and it is truly amazing how many just seem to choose the depressed route. regardless of what life throws at you, it's your choice of what you make of it.I did a flight the other day in the Caribbean and with the sun effects on I was going right into it, put on my shades to see if it had any affect and the girlfriend walked in, took one look and said "you too cool for me now that you have the new FS??" lolRegards, MichaelKDFWhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com Best, Michael KDFW
September 16, 200322 yr I have to agree with all that's been said- .My first flight simulator was a tape run program on a 128K Spectrum back in the 80s.I remember thinking how clever these guys who made this must be!It was so crude just a horizon and a couple of very rudimentary readouts for altitude, heading and speed. Now look what we have-almost unbelievable reality and getting better every time you get a new version.I haven't needed the sunglasses yet but last night ,flying(on line) a C172 out in the Santa Catalina Gulf ,I was heading into San Clemente Is from Avalon when the weather closed in (fog banks). It was just so realistic ,I found myself literally sitting on the edge of my seat as I struggled to see the runway thru the murk.I 'm happy to report a safe(if slightly bouncy) landing. As a real life PPL holder I will say that I would not have taken off with conditions as they were forecast, but in a sim you can get away with it!CheersDave
September 16, 200322 yr This is not fair. :-mad I only had a 48K Spectrum. :-madBut I recall just how fantastic it was to have a flight simulator in those days. You spent half an hour loading up the tape and just prayed that it wouldn't crash in the process. If I remember correctly the Spectrum had two airfields - one called Main and the other called Club. There were high mountains at one end of Club's runway but you couldn't see them because of graphics limitations. You just knew they were there when you hit them :-lol That's if you ever got to Club - no GPS or anything like that to help you.I think it should be compulsory for everyone buying FS9 to spend a minimum of 5 hours in a Spectrum, or similar, simulator. Then we would see how many complaints there are about MS :-)David
September 16, 200322 yr oh man aint that funny! i sometimes catch myself trying to look over the front panel/cowling when landing and then realize after i have my neck strained up it doesnt do any good anyway!! LOLciao!Brian S Ciao!
September 16, 200322 yr Moderator In total agreement. *MY* first simulator (LOL) was an ASCII character based item called 747.COM - and for those not old enough the '.COM' has nothing to do with the web. It was an executable program that ran in DOS. You could see the cursor flashing over the screen as it refreshed the 'gauges'. It makes me appreciate what we have today.DOn't forget tho, it seems to be politically correct to bash MS or refer to them as M$. They are just a business - they are there to make a profit not to appeal to everyone and lose money. If we really look at it - the current trends in HARDWARE today have been brought about my MS. Whether by intent or accident, every new release of their products makes larger demands on the hardware forcing the mfg's to produce faster and better. Altho he didn't say it in so many words, this is something that Bill Gates has talked about for many years. Is FS9 perfect? Not by a long shot but is it 'garbage' as some like to call it? Not at all - it took me a week or so to get it tweaked where *I* like it and now it runs as smooth as silk the majority of the time. It has a problem every now and then but I do not own a computer or program at home or work that doesn't have a problem every now and then.As has been said, it's much easier to jump on the 'bash MS' bandwagon than talk about the positive things in FS9.Just MHO,Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
September 16, 200322 yr I agree with your comments. Way too many negative opinions out there. I have a slower system (PIII 1GHZ) and I have had GREAT results with FS9!However I havn't responded to too many posts because I have been just too busy flying FS2004!I am having so much fun with this sim that I can hardly contain myself. When I'm not out flying for real, I'm flying the sim.Scott :-)ATP/CFII - In the real aviation world.
September 16, 200322 yr Thank heavens I'm not the only one on here who wasted countless hours on my Spectrum.I used to sit there patiently waiting for the cassette to finish loading only to get the "Load Error" message at the end and also spent a lot of time desperately trying to untangle tapes the the machine had eaten.David - why only 5 hrs- make them serve a one year apprenticeship on a Spectrum or Amiga before letting them near a proper PC/FS programI remember also having a very crude ATC program that was really just a line- drawn map, black on white that could just about handle 5 or 6 moving objects when you were very lucky and the machine was in a good mood. Those were the days....................(or were they?)Dave
September 16, 200322 yr 747.COM - I remember that :-)I think we are getting old, Vic :-lol especially when I remember that YP wasn't Yankee Papa but Yoke Peter.David
