Best Recording Software

Featured Replies

Hey Guys, I'm looking to start uploading video's on to youtube, however I'm looking for the best freeware video recording software. I've tried fraps but the demo only lets you record 30 seconds a time and it's a frame rate killer. It goes down to about 10fps. I can't afford to lose many FPS so wondering if anybody new about a good FPS friendly, freeware video recording soft wareThanks

GameCam is the best performing software I've seen (I use it with my videos). You do lose a little quality with compression, but not too bad. Output file size as a result is also a fraction of what you get with FRAPS. It is payware, but like FRAPS has a demo mode. I don't think it's time restricted (I could be wrong), but I think you don't get sound with the Demo version. One caveat, though, it does have a problem recording FS9 modeled aircraft in FSX, you'll get a blank white screen. FSX modeled aircraft is no problem. I believe this problem is only with Nvidia cards as it worked ok when I had a ATI card installed when FSX was first released. Also the problem is worse with FSX SP2 then SP2. In SP2 the problem is in all conditions, where with SP1, it only occurred in fog conditions. That's why all my videos now are only with models built to FSX SDK standards.

Thanks

Hi all,I have a similar question... I'm playing around with Fraps and have it recording in full size at a decent frame rate. The recordings are in really good quality, but when I go to edit in Premiere Pro they seem to lose a lot of quality, even after exporting. Anyone have any tips and tricks to keep the recording the same quality? Thanks

Hi,http://www.fs-recorder.net/The latest version (still beta) has a video rendering mode. It works great. Given the way it works, it has zero impact on frame rate when making a video.
I too use FSrecorder. It is free and has no impact on framerates. It is very slow while you are recording but with a bit of patience and some editing this is an example of the result:

Yes, for anyone who is looking for a way to squeeze a bit more performance out of recording while flying, you won't really appreciate what this tool does until you try it. On lower-end systems, you'll get smoother videos than you normally get without recording. Here's a short recording from my Athlon 4600+ with a Radeon HD4650/256MB -- basically a dog of a system. HD version available. Uploaded directly to Youtube using Windows Live Movie Maker.Vector Land Class

If you have any recent Adobe products in the CS4 or CS5 versions (i.e. Photoshop, After Effects etc), you will also have Adobe Media Encoder, which can convert most video formats in a very clean way. Since you can download demo versions of those Adobe products for a 30 day trial, this means you could use media encoder even if you don't have full versions of the products.Al
