Can't see add on aircraft...

Featured Replies

Today, I added new add on planes to fsx, but for some reason they aren't showing up. I have the show all variations option turned on. How can I fix this issue.Thank you for any help that can be provided in this matter.

Might be the directory you have FSX in (if it isn't installed in the default location). I have my FSX in E:program files, and by default most add-ons will install to C:program files and create the folder even if there is no FSX installed there. It is easy to miss that, which in fact I did last night when sticking a new plane in FSX, and firing it up without paying attention to changing the directory when installing it LOLAnother occasional issue, is the install process creating another 'airplane' folder within the default 'airplane' folder and installing to there, thus confusing FSX as to where things are, so check in your sim objetcts/airplanes folder to ensure that has not happened, and if it has, drag the add-on airplane's folder to the right place.Al

I have placed my aircraft in the correct "simobjects" folder. But for some reason FSX is not seeing the new add ons. I installed new aircraft and one of my other model went disappeared. I don't know if this has to do with the aircraft.cfg file. Any other ideas????

I think if it's a config file issue, then it would be the main FSX config file which would be to blame, i.e the one you find located here: C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX So I'd try making a back up of that (just drag it out of there onto your desktop and crank up FSX and it'll write a new one).If that doesn't work, you could also try binning your logbook, which is another file that can cause trouble if it gets corrupted in some way. You can find that one here: C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files.Al

Don't you think that this has something to do with the panel or aircraft.cfg files? Dave.

It might do, but the fact that the installation has buggered up some of the stuff that was already installed and was previously working but now no longer is, would seem to suggest that installing the new ones that aren't showing up is not the limit of the problem, for if it was, it would be just the newly installed aircraft with dodgy config files that weren't showing up.More to the point, why would installing one aircraft appear to affect the config file of another aircraft unless something was amiss with the sim? So that makes me think it's not the aircraft files that are awry. Could be wrong of course, wouldn't be the first time LOL, but seems to make sense to me that it is a 'sim' problem of some sort, rather than an aircraft one..Al

Personally if this had happened to me I would just roll back to your last good config using System Restore.

Can you take a screenshot from Windows Explorer of the folders in question? I highly doubt it is a serious issue - it is probably something really simple. Nonetheless, it is a little tough to diagnose without looking at your computer. Here is the address for my POSKY 737-600 (non-default installation)D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\737-600In the 737-600 folder, you need to have the following folders:ModelPanelSoundTexture (separate one for each airline)You also need an aircraft.cfg and a .air file

Well let me first explain the nature of my problem. After Installing FSX, I went and installed the SP1 and SP2 updates. After that I went and put my add on aircraft folders in the FSX Aircraft folder (inside of the simbojects folder). Once the aircraft were added to the folder, I launched FSX, at first none of the aircraft add on aircraft in FSX showed, so I went and checked the "show all variations" option. then my two initial add on aircraft appeared. Now here's the odd part. according to internet articles the add on aircraft should have a blue gray "?" icon box, since these aircraft don't have a thumbnail image, but in my case these incons did not appeared. Instead FSX borrowed the thumbnail of default aircraft and put them instead of these "?" icons.Yesterday, I went and installed additional aircraft into FSX and this is what happened, one of my previous add on aircraft disappeared, and was nowhere to be found. No icon, no text, no nothing, even if I clicked the "show all variation" box. Even more odd if I clicked the white space after the last aircraft that had an icon, then my disappeared model would appear but only one of the variations (paint scheme).Has this helped?System Specs, in the signature below.

Let me see how I can take a screen shot. I personally don't know because I am running windows on my MacBook Pro, the keyboard layout is different, but I will do my best. This combo keys do not seem to work on Bootcamp (I am running Windows 7 on Bootcamp not on virtual machine). Let me see what I can come up with. Anyways I can tell you that, all my add on aircraft are inside the default aircraft folder (the one inside the simobjects folder). Something I forgot to mention is that these aircraft were all made for FS2004 and at least the model that is giving me the problem was modeled on GMAX (Vistaliners L-1011 made by Erik Cantu, former member of Virtual Eastern). Does FSX has problems with aircraft modeled on GMAX?Now, I have an idea on how I can work around this problem, I tweak the aircraft manufactirer UI name in the cfg file and change its order, now in order to make sure that my temporary fix works I need to ask the following question, How does FSX arrange the aircraft, alphabetically, or by other kind of method?Thank You for any response in this matter.

As far as I'm aware, it arranges them by manufacturer name in alphabetical order.Al

The curious thing is that when the thumbnail images (of the default FSX Planes) run out all aircraft that are added after they run out unless they are alphabetically in the first possitions where they borrow another thumbnail from a default FSX aircraft rather than creating the usual "?" thumbnail. Well let's see how my remedial fix works, but please keep participating in this thread since I am open to other suggestions. Thank You.

I took some screenshots of my Windows 7 Bootcamp Partition and the FSX Folder. I also took a screenshot of the FSX SimObjects aircraft folder and the aircraft in question. Take a look:

Ok. Seems right to me.Now, what do you have for the following. Just copy and paste from your text files.1. The aircraft enteries from the L1011 aircraft.cfg2. The [MAIN] section from the FSX.cfg
