737........Classic?

Featured Replies

I'm wondering how easy would it be for PMDG to convert the finished NGX to a classic and release it as a low-cost expansion pack/standalone product?Given the fact that the 737 classic and NG shares many systems and 3D model similarities, and the NGX features the Southwest-style EFIS/MAP steam gauge emulation. What do you guys think?

go on the captain sim website and vote for it!then we can have one for FSX, i think its going to be a tie between the -100 200,, and the classic series, please vote for the 300 400 and 500 XD

I would love it. But there are so many differences between the two generations (wings, systems, etc.) that I wonder if this would be such an easy project.Bruno

its a totally different plane grow up..

And so is the Dreamlifter and 747-8. All PMDG did was to make a new model and slap a $15 price tag on it.If PMDG is smart enough then they could just change a few polygons in the VC and external model, Leave the overhead gauges and the flight dynamics alone, make a few cosmetic changes in the FMC CDU, replace the PFD/ND screens with the already developed EFIS/MAP emulation, and perhaps change the buttons on the autopilot and the six pack. Charge $30 and PMDG will have a good quality product. Sure it's not the best but your only alternative is Wilco's 737 PIC from 2006.

And in fairness, Captain Sim does a pretty good job with steam gauge aircraft. Not so much with glass cockpits, but their 707 is excellent.

Oh yes, I'd love to see PMDG 737 Classic on the market.

The PMDG 747-8 uses the existing 747-400 panel, but that's not far off what the real aircraft uses. On the other hand, the 737 Classic FMC is a very different beast to the 737NG FMC, cosmetic changes wouldn't get it done to PMDG standards. The Wilco 737 PIC may be from 2006 but it's still a pretty good simulation of the 737 Classic (though the external model isn't that great). You could always request it at Captain Sim, then wait a year or so for some eye-candy with inaccurate systems simulation.Kevin

I agree. Wilco's maybe old, but it's a great simulated classic 737 series. I hate saying anything negative about a developer since it takes considerable resources to put out these aircraft, but I shudder to think of a CS 737 and I'll leave it at that.

Here's another idea: Fit the 747 FMC/CDU to the 737 classic and change the performance data/edit a few pages. I know the 737 Classic uses a Smiths unit but with a few changes PMDG could release it as an 'express' lite product. After all it's the lite products which sells well in this market. It's always cheaper and more profitable IMO to make a 737 classic from the NG than to have one built from scratch.

PMDG surely wouldn't do that...they'd land themselves into a big pile of 'This isn't accurate to the 737 classic' posts on the forum :PAnd if you're talking about the NG and wanting a dirty 'port' to create a -100/-200 series using the same flight dynamics thinking they're even remotly similar...you should take a trip on a -200 sim, then an NG sim, you'll see the error of your ways!!! hehe LOL.gifSam
