November 18, 201015 yr Hello people, back with another question about products. This time it's FSDreamteam's JFK. I have flown twice now to and fro NYC for vacation (so yes, this is real world I'm talking about). Now I would love to do the same route in FS. After acquiring FlyTampa's Boston and flying KBOS-EHAM-KBOS with my new PSS/POSKY 777 merge, I ended up really liking the idea of these transatlantic route. And, what's also nice, is that JFK and KBOS are very close together, thus giving me a perfect route for my ERJ-145. The flight will be short and sweet, exactly what I want. So, I have been looking at freeware JFK airports, but none that really captured my attention, although FRF studio's rendition is actually quite nice. That said and being the spoiled brat that I am, I would love to have AES, certainly after flying from EHAM for over 6 hours. This means I have only one good candidate: FSDT's JFK.Normally I wouldn't make such a fuss of buying it, however, there are some problems. I read the Avsim review and I have to agree that some of taxiway textures really look quite bad. "A blurry mess", is what the review called it, and I have to agree, judging by the screenshots. I want to know your opinion now. The review isn't very recent, and in the meantime FSDT might have come with an update that I don't know about. What do you guys think? Is it worth buying it?And if we're on the subject on NYC, would it be worthwhile to buy Aerosoft's Manhattan? Given that I'd only see the skyline from afar on route such as EHAM-KJFK, KBOS-KJFK and KPHL-KJFK (Thanks, SunSkyJet!), is it worthwhile to get an entire Manhattan scenery? November 18, 201015 yr like all FSDT products, why don't you try it yourself? all their products function as limited time demos firsti'm quite happy with it personally, don't find the runway textures to be poor
November 18, 201015 yr Everything from FSDreamteam is worth buying. Best two scenery from all my scenery's are Geneva and Zurich, from them. My Specification: I CAN RUN FSX IN MAX SETTINGS....i don't care about dell, bell, amd, intel, 60000 wats power supply or alien made graphic card....
November 18, 201015 yr hello Benjamin, I agree with everyone here I don't find the textures at all a mess at jfk it is in amazing scenery definitely try out the scenery in demo mode, its about 5 min too 6 min after that the terminal disappears. but its worth every cent the scenery is truly one of my favorites I love it. aerosoft manhattan is also a nice scenery but due to my lower cpu I have it disabled to save fps. The only negative thing I can say about the aerosoft manhattan scenery, is that they did not remake the models for the statue of liberty or the empire state building which you can find replacements here at the file library. Benjamin if you can, It would be awesome if you did a 2second review for fsdt jfk scneery if you end up getting jfk. it will be nice having other recent review. November 18, 201015 yr I personally find JFK to be a work of art. I can't think of many,if any, developers that take more care than FSDT.
November 18, 201015 yr Author Well, that sounds completely awesome. I will follow up on the advice and try it in demo mod, then I'll decide about the purchase - but from what I hear, I'll buy it probably anyhow. Aerosoft's manhattan is still unsure though. Any more opinions on that one?Cesar: I'll see what I can do regarding a review. November 19, 201015 yr I got Manhattan on sale, and thought it was completely worth it. It really fleshes out that area.
November 19, 201015 yr Author Installed it and went for a few rounds. For some reaosn, it looks ten times better in my sim than on the screenshots in Avsim's review, and I'm not sure why... I guess the reviewer had texture filtering on bilinear or something. Because for as far as I can see, it's stunning. Coneman: I can imagine. doing my rounds above JFK, and looked at Manhattan, only to see that the default FS2004 rendition looks utterly miserable. Is the Aerosoft rendition better, compared to FS2004 default, when seen from as far as KJFK? Because that's the point... if from that distance there is no improvement, there is no point in buying it. Could somebody perhaps post a screenshot comparing the view from JFK of Manhattan with and without Aerosoft's Manhattan? November 19, 201015 yr Author Okaaay, went to FSDT's purchase screen, and if I buy JFK, I get 15% off on KORD. Is that worthwhile? I mean, it would be rather nice to fly there from KBOS, KJFK and KPHL, I guess... I'm not really interested in any of the other American airports, though. Chicago and NYC are places I have been to, so that's why they interest me. The others are "like any other airport", if you understand what I mean. November 19, 201015 yr Benjamin,I have landed only a couple of times at O'hare (when going up to Oshkosh for you know what) so I can't comment on whether the airport is true to reality. But judging it simply by how it looks and works, I think it's absolutely as stunning as ALL FSDT products. They are also currently working on an update but haven't said anything about when.I can't highly enough recommend FSDT and to me they are together with FlyTampa the PMDG of airport sceneries! November 19, 201015 yr fsdt stuff is top class and addictive. i have all their continental usa airports.although i think KORD is missing one of the newer runways that may be updated in the future.
November 19, 201015 yr Author Long story short: I bought KJFK and KORD. I have been flying some circuits with the QW757 and PSS/POSKY777, to further check out performance. For some reaosn, the 777 has better performance than the 757, while the 777 performs worse at sceneries such as Aerosoft EHAM. In general, this is a very nice scenery. I will say that I dislike the fact that ground imagery was used for the taxiways. I much prefer the "normal"way of doing it: laying out actual taxiways like Aerosoft does with all their sceneries. The result is that many taxiways appear a bit blurred. In FSX it might be fine, in FS2004 it looks underwhelming. That said, the buildings are great. I think I'll have fun with this scenery.Still, could somebody post a screenshot, comparing Aerosoft and default Manhattan when viewed from KJFK? What I have seen is that the default scenery is okay, but only when you get closer. If the same thing is true for Aerosoft rendition, I have no reason to buy it. November 19, 201015 yr MeToo! Nuff Said! I have all of their airports and think they are great contributions (And they are good for both FS9 AND FSX for a single price!)RTH
