NGX and Weather radar

Featured Replies

Really guys...Sometimes these forums are really boring, you all only bashing people stating YOUR personnal opinion as if it was absolute truth...The guy asked if the Weather Radar by RealityXP is going to be easily implemented, since it was for Fs9, My guess is that it will be for FsX...Anyways, if Someone prefers having a WXR that shows all clouds and not only Precipitations, good for him...Seriously sometimes, I hear you guys laughing at people or being merely gross with others, with "as real as it gets" Come on, you all are gonna flight a 738 ALONE!!! Clicking with a mouse...So please don't come with all your "as real as it gets"... That's nothing but ridiculous. Okay the plane will be probably very representative of the systems of a 738 but for the rest you all should try to face reality sometimes...(I'm not in any way talking of Pmdg people, they are pretty clear and respect other people, they only state what they think, and stress it)F.Lanker
Some posts up he asked if the Wx radar detected rain, because he didn't want to waste money. You should also sign your post with your full name next time you want to go off on the posters of this board.

How does PMDG calculate where precipitation is to simulate icing such as on the J41?
If you ask me - simulation of icing is worthless (apart from some eye-candy visual effects) within the confines of still a very primitive weather engine in FSX. No one should kid himself/herself they get any dose of 'realism' here. But may be good enough to have a chance to flip some switches and get familiar with anti-ice hardware on the aircraft.

As I use the REX 'real-world' Weather Engine not the FSX one I thought it may pick up stuff like Icing, Rain, Storms...it's really no big deal if it doesn't.I also read somewhere that PDMG bought out the Wx500, my logic is why buy one if it might be used in the NGX, essentially buying it twice. If that, indeed is true. Also, If I drink too much over the weekend I usually feel like I have turbulence sickness the next day - I have never tried to combine that with FSX. I might give it a go next time to see if that adds realism. :DCheersChris Farrell

Ok, PMDG could put some "cloud detector" in place of Wx radar just so they wouldn't have to edit those beautiful original Boeing manuals with "Not simulated in this simulation" sentence... wink.gif

One thing FS does simulate with icing is the added weight and decreased fan blade performance with regards to icing. The problem is, FS accumulates ice way too slowly (at "severe" icing, you would accumulate about 1,000 lbs of ice in a very, very long time)REX/Actie Sky actually accelerates that timetable for weight accumulation and engine performance loss in icing conditions. What once took 30 minutes to accumulate now takes about 1 minute with the above programs. While we all know there's no way in hell FS will simulate the freezing of internal liquids, AoA changes, stuck airfoils and airflow disturbances from Ice, the added weight and engine performance changes that it does simulate can make a difference. Example: after flying through heavy icing with the 172 with ASE for 12 minutes, my plane stalled at maneuvering speed in straight and level flight and fell out the sky. It's not perfect, but with the above addons icing does play a factor in your decision making process.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
