NGX and Weather radar

Featured Replies

Hello,I have been debating on whether or not to get the Reality XP Wx500 weather radar for the JS1400 as I believe this has been coded in the panel.cfg.....Will the NGX have one of these or similar by default? or a similar situation with 3rd party weather add-ons.Many thanksChris Farrell

pretty sure that's been answered already. due to the limitations of fsx they can't make a radar that matches the quality/realism of the aircraft so they'll not be implementing oneBrett Duggan

If you were to do a search on the forums... No there will not be a weather radar. PMDG has stated that because FSX does not have a method to detect where precipitation is, only cloud location. If it were possible it would be done, but its not so they wont.

Chris,The level of simulation of weather in FSX is limited as far as weather radar goes. From memory there is no known way to correctly simulate where the precipitation occurs in FSX therefore it will not be implemented in the NGX. I realize there is a provision for it in the jetstream but i do not think the NGX will provide such a feature. The NGX is being designed with the idea of it being a simulation as close to the real aircraft as possible and since weather radar cannot be simulated in the manner it really performs its tasks in the real aircraft, it will not be included as a feature of the NGX.I believe this is correct but things sometimes change.Hope this answers your question.-Dan Parker

Worth a laugh. Isn't it better to have any wx radar, rather than none? What's more realistic?

I'd rather not have wx radar than have a fake wx radar that only shows clouds. In this case, none is more realistic than a fake one.

Lame WX radar is not realistic at all either, so maybe more realistic is not having it? It would be coll to have it, but I can live without it.

Obviously, the 'realism' argument is not a true cause of the decision. And - @up; better than nothing in my opinion.

As for realism, Well, we are talking about FSX!! which is nothing like real anyway...LOL anyone who thinks it is.....errr..well.... needs to go outside for a bit.I have read that the WX500 will detect cloud not rain. I only ask as PMDG has implemented code for this on the JS1400. I don't want to waste money.Chris Farrell

Cool, stick with default 737 then, but I'll take NGX without WX wink.gif

Correct.

Icing is "reported" by the simulator. I don't think PMDG need to calculate anything.

It is probably more realistic to use a program like Active Sky and then use its resources to determine weather. Having a Wx radar that does not show precipitation is only there for looks and will give you no information to help you in flight, unless you are flying in the darkest of nights and cannot see the clouds with random icing in clouds on in FSUIPC. Otherwise, it is only telling you information you already know, there is a cloud in front of me. No duh, but what I want to know is if there is precipitation down there, do I need to worry about that? You get no such information from this sort of thing.

i think this particular question (if the Reality XP radar can be integrated in the NGX) has not been answered yet by PMDG.
