Are We Really Okay With This?

You know, I read all this with sadness. It is always great to give excuses for atrocities, but how different is it to say we did not start it, so it is OK?I am not referring to one side or another here, simply that wrong is wrong, and no explanation by any author will ever change that in my view.As for the Iranians (I am not Iranian), perhaps they dislike the U.S. government so much because the CIA was instrumental in creating and training the brutal secret service during the previous regime. We never research the full story, and we end up hating people for whatever reason comes to mind. We help torture and kill people, but shame on their families for hating us.Try to remember in the end that this forum and the hobby is for everyone minus politics. We all get along, and we all enjoy our hobby without the pressure of politics.

Hello,

I just scanned my computer but didn't find any terrorist. Can you recommend a good anti-terrorist software package because I'm now really worried there may be a terrorist inside it.

Very well said.Regards,John

Taking a trip back in the wayback machine...In the weeks and months following September 2001, there was great, passionate debate about the World Trade Center buildings existing in Manhattan in the simulator. Back in 2001, there was a LOT of emotional discussion between those who wished to remove the WTC from their FS2000 scenery to better match the new reality and those who wanted to "keep them standing" in the virtual world as some sort of tribute. In October 2001, when FS2002 was released, there was a rather protracted discussion about Microsoft's decision to hold production a bit while they removed the twin towers from the scenery files. 3rd party scenery addons immediately surfaces to re-include them (*or the light beam tributes). Both sides of the argument had their reasons for their decisions, and truth be told both sides were fair postures to take. In the end, the vast majority of users decided on their own and proceeded forward, quietly, in the fashion they desired. There were vocal members of the discussion on both sides, but much like politics in America today, it seemed only the extreme ends of both sides were being heard. The vast, silent majority in between the two proceeded forward one way or another doing what they felt was right, and kept it pretty much to themselves.... (*actually, most sim users probably didn't even know there was a discussion about it) I bring this up only to add some perspective to the discussion - I'm not implying that everyone here in this discussion is making mountains out of molehills, but do keep in mind that even without the benefit of having seen this discussion, the vast majority of simmers who come across this airplane repaint will probably understand that such a repaint is not a glorification of the paint job's subject, but rather a representation of something that exists. The parallels between the WTC building scenery and this repaint aren't perfect, but I feel that there is a similarity between them. In the end, the files to both remove the WTC from 2000 and re-include the WTC's in 2002(and beyond) were made and made available online for anyone to use. Whether or not you agreed with the files or their use, it became a decision that each user could make on their own.
