December 2, 201015 yr Hi, guys! Can anyone recommend their favorite cockpit DVDs or online videos? My wife is bugging me for a Christmas list and although cockpit vids are something I've always wanted, they seem to be a bit high in price so far as DVDs go, so I would never be inclined to buy them for myself. I'm mostly interested in learning how major English speaking airlines conduct procedures from cold and dark through take off, climb and cruise right through to parking and shut down, and I fly the Boeing steel pretty much exclusively -- 737NG, 747, 757, 767 and 777.Thanks for your help (and my wife thanks you too!) December 2, 201015 yr Two I happen to like are these:http://www.worldairroutes.com/Helios.html (the now defunct airline flying the B737-800 to and from Greece to the UK)http://www.worldairroutes.com/MNG.html (big freight company flying A300s and B737-400s around Asia and Europe, quite a few night flights)If you like the 737, the above two DVDs cover the Classic 400 and the NG 800 too of course, so they are probably worth considering. The Helios one has a particularly good explanation of the avionics and autopilot in the 800NG by one of the pilots, which is well worth checking out.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
December 2, 201015 yr There are three main contenders in my oppinion:World Air RoutesITVVPilots Eye TVWorld Air Routes seem to release new DVD's pretty often, where as ITVV havn't really been up to much for a while. However, trust me on this one, get the Virgin 747-400 DVD from ITVV. It is absolutely stunning!!!Pilots Eye TV are a german company and language is mostly German, however subtitles are in English. Quality is absolutely stunning and bluray is also available. Sam Crawford "Don't judge the intelligence of an individual by the number of posts that they have made. December 2, 201015 yr Hi Chuck,Definitely go for World Air Routes. There are tons of videos to choose from, some of the best being 737NGs and/or 767s. NEOS, Arkefly, Lauda, Air Italy are among the best.altstiff is also an avid collector of WAR dvds, I hope he chimes in on this.(He's the one who got me into WAR dvds too!) Onur K. December 2, 201015 yr The ones Onur mentioned are great ones to own. Among my favs are the Oasis 747 training Tuifly 737NG and Air Atlantic 747-400.I have 150 in my collection so ask away if you have any questions, they (WAR) have a big sale on right now. Al Stiff
December 2, 201015 yr I own the Lauda video. It is in English. The pilots do a great job of explaining procedures. It's very well done.
December 2, 201015 yr If you want to learn hard, find the older ITVV series. Whichever, depending on the type of aircraft you're interested in. Very informative! That seems to fit your profile best as it shows each possible procedure plus the best of them feature boeings (747-400 Virgin Atlantic and 767-300 Leisure). If you want something new with high quality of image, a bit of moody art and a more general look with character, choose PilotsEYE TV - my favourite. :Love:It's in German (featuring airlines like Lufthansa, Condor, Austrian Airlines, etc) but with English subtitles.Justplanes? I don't like their style. It's boring for me. I bought one, a friend of mine got two plus I've seen many as demos on YouTube. But, of course, it's all a question of taste.Whatever the choice, have some nice winter evenings with aviation videos! :(
December 3, 201015 yr The ITVV ones are great for going over the panels and such. I like the WAR ones for watching the line guys in action, some of the older ones are boring as they focus on looking out the window and riding in the cabin. The later WAR stuff focus more on the flying such as the pre flight info and cockpit prep. The Arkefly dvd is awesome for this with an extensive pre flight segment and cockpit setup in the 737-800.If you have not seen some of the newer stuff give it a chance, they have some great footage. Like the Lauda DVD navigating througj build ups and the Air Baltic FMS setup segment.I love the ITVV MD-11 dvd as well. Also check out cockpit presentation by Jan Mogren. They have some great dvd too. Al Stiff
December 3, 201015 yr Author Wow, guys, a lot of great suggestions! Looks like the hardest decision I'm going to have is not whether or not to get any of these, but which one(s) to settle on . . .
