VATSIM attacked

Distributed Denial of Service Attack at the host site at VATSIM, read hereWhat a stupid thing to do.

Yup, and if anyone has tried to connect to Vatsim, there is a chance that their computer was an unwitting part of the DDoS attack, so I'd recommend a virus scan to see if anything picks up if anyone was trying to get on there. Probably won't show up on a scan, but you never know.Al

Good idea Al, I am incredibly angry that someone yet again with nothing better to do has used their knowledge to harm all of those who belong to this community. It just does not sit right with me and what angers me most is that no one will be able to do anything about it and the perpetrator will simply walk away much like the individual that harmed Avsim.

Some hacker seeking his fifteen minutes of fame among the hacking community no doubt. Of course for the hacker, the trouble with that is, the moment they attempt to claim what they no doubt imagine is kudos among hacking peers for having done something such as that, they risk revealing their identity outside that circle. Clearly it takes some skill to do such a thing, I just wish they'd employ that ability in a more constructive way.Al

Actually no skill involved at all, I'm sure who ever did the DDOS did it via brute force, and not a clever orchestrated attack.

Whoever did this hurt more than just some "gamers". My CFI used VATSIM to teach students how to work with ATC. This baloney needs to stop, people need to grow up if they wish to have their Big Screen TV's, Computers, and all their precious material goods. How does this stuff get delivered? Through the hands of the pilots and people who help them. I've met pilots that have learned from Vatsim. I hope people get it clear what their priorities are.John

Was this a direct attack on Vatsim or on its host server? The link reads:The USA-C server (which also hosts http://www.vatsim.net) has been under a Distributed Denial of Service attack for the last few hours.

Well, I know it's pretty hard to have such major virtual organizations attacked, however the good news is that only the host servers are affected, and Dave told us about online Servinfo flights being unaffected.
