October 27, 200322 yr Lee Swordy's AFCAD program is wonderful but now that it's released, we'll probably see Avsim's 38,000 library files to date go to 50,000 over the next week. Why? File upon file upon file for AFCAD.Don't get me wrong; it's all great work, and I never criticise freeware, but having installed hundreds of these files for FS2002 I just can't see myself doing it all again, file by file, for FS2004. It's like trying to build the Eiffel Tower with paper clips.Instead of everybody rushing to be the first to upload one airport each, would it not make more sense to sit back for a mo, think about it, and maybe create region by region or something? Or come up with some sort of packaging system for all these new files, perhaps? Just food for thought. Otherwise, it's going to be hard to see the wood for the trees. And my wife is likely to hit me with a giant redwood.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
October 27, 200322 yr Thank you Mark.i'll be avoiding the Avsim "whats new" page like the plague from now on. :-xxrotflmao22000....WHEW!! better set up a "project airport" to go with project ai ;-)as much as i like ai,i like online flying better, and i don't like the hassle of setting ai traffic up ;-)so i'll pass this AFCAD thingy...have fun with it guys!!Lee:you made/make a wonderful utility,it's not your fault i'm not using it!!
October 27, 200322 yr >Instead of everybody rushing to be the first to upload one>airport each, would it not make more sense to sit back for a>mo, think about it, and maybe create region by region or>something? Don't worry :-) I've got the whole of Norway in my sights! I did afcad files for all the airports in "Norwegian Airports v8" scenery package in fs2002. I intend to do the same thing in fs2004 - and include any other Norwegian airports that are served by scheduled flights.
October 27, 200322 yr American: Awesome. You da man, dude. GO SCANDIES!English: Jolly good show. Thanks awfully, old chap.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
October 28, 200322 yr My reasons for sticking with FS2002 are now becoming even clearer. :-)Seriously, Lee has been an absolute saint in the freeware tools he has produced for us, AND has kept them freeware. Think of how EASY it would have been to turn AFCAD and TTools into payware, they are both more deserving than many other things I have seen. Hey, at least there is a dedicated AFCAD category in the AVSIM library.
October 28, 200322 yr Couple things to rememberA) Installing is easer for 2004, just unzip the BGL into your addon scenery folder, that's it.:( No overlays to have to deal with.So installation should take all of 2 seconds.Matt
October 28, 200322 yr <<<>>>22,000 x 2 seconds = 12 hours solid installation. But, the reality is ....Find file 5 secondsDecide whether author is worth his salt 10 secondsDownload (if not a sticky day) 10 secondsFind file on muddled hard drive 5 secondsOpen zip and check it's not another Boeing 10 secondsInstall to FS9 somewhere 2 secondsSip coffee before grabbing yet anotherBoeing or Airbus 5 seconds _________ 47 secondsThat's 22,000 x 47 seconds = 287 hours.... which is, given say 8 hours a day doing this exercise without having a pee, about 36 days. But feel free, LOL ...Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM

October 28, 200322 yr Fainthearted eh Mark! :-lol ...the ai traffic is going to be one of the greatest things about FS9 IMHO :-hahyou are not going to fly to 20000 airports....just afcad up your favorite airports thats all I'm sure they don't even add up to 50 :)I myself will be making my own afcads for every airport I fly to plus painting, making panels, etc etc and hopefully squeezing in the odd flight or two! :-lol........love this sim to bits! *:-* regardsEdhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/38210.jpg My FS Videos
October 28, 200322 yr >Sounds great Anthony. Can't wait to see them. How long will>it take before there are ready?I'll start playing around with AFCAD tonight. But it could be a couple of weeks before I get them all done. I'm intending to release them as one big package - ideally I'd like it if I can put them in the same scenery folder as the Norwegian Airports package. I have a feeling though that if I do that, the default scenery will be mixed in with the addon scenery - much experimentation to be done.
