Sadly, probably not. Microsoft has reported that the whole engine had been rebuilt for Flight, and will not be 99% backwards compatible likr FSX and FS9. This could mean less issues, but also it will start with NO addons. (Information from another PMDG post)

Taking into consideration that it looks a lot like fsx, my guess is they are using the FSX engine just my 2 centsTaylor Oldham

You think? The graphics look similar I agree, but that would be dumb. For all the flight sim world's sake, I hope you're wrong. :)

Pretty sure there's been nothing said from MS like that. I said at one point that I HOPED they'd do the right thing and make a brand new modern 3D engine that's GPU dependent, has real dynamic lighting etc, but there's been nothing to that effect said. In fact what they have shown in those teaser videos looks exactly like FSX to me.At any rate though, it is WAY too early for us to know if the NGX will be compatible with Flight.

Given that MS wrote in their FAQ that it will use a marketplace, it is quite possible that add-on developers will be forbidden unless they fill some onerous conditions of Microsoft's.

There is no way that it will be forbidden to build addons for MS Flight. Addons are basically what keeps the MSFS community alive.

+1MSFS have hundereds of freeware and payware addons. msfs without addons, is excatly USELESS to me.

Alright, I read the other post wrong sorry. There's not enough sleep and speed reading for you. Flight looks JUST like FSX, and FSX with REX2 and UTX is better than what I've seen in flight so far. It has to be a little different if it's going to be a more multiplayer compatible program. The have the Windows Live logo all over it.However, I did some research here and returned this:"Q:How does “Microsoft Flight” differ from “Flight Simulator?” Why the new name? What’s changed?A:With “Microsoft Flight” we’re approaching the virtual flight genre from the ground up, with the focus on the universal appeal of the experience of Flight. We believe the simplicity of “Microsoft Flight” perfectly captures that vision while welcoming the millions of existing Flight Simulator fans. The new “Microsoft Flight” retains the full fidelity simulation longtime fans have come to expect while offering all players a whole new look and feel, a wide range of new game play and challenges, persistent experiences and social connectivity. But above they say "From new game play elements and enhanced scenery and terrain to new aircraft and integrated content marketplace".So at this point I'm not really sure what to expect. I'm getting an almost "Sims 3" feeling from that with the whole integrated marketplace thing. It's the use of the word "enhanced" I'm worried about. That says what Taylor and Ryan sad is probably on the mark. They spruced up FSX and included some new scenery. I can't figure it out. Perhaps a call to some of my contacts over at Microsoft will be in order. I'll handle that today sometime and get back to everybody later.

I think you're spot on - and it'll probably be the death of the dynasty UNLESS they actually keep vital elements of the existing engine. Let's break it down:"...new game play elements..." - while this has potential, they want more focus on MS Flight, the game (notice the "simulator" term is the one to go)."...enhanced scenery and terrain..." - update a few airports, bring a few new ones in. Perhaps increase the resolution of the terrain and use more photo-real textures."...new aircraft..." - pretty standard for MS to throw a few new planes in there - maybe even update some old ones"...integrated content marketplace..." - this is important. This is their Steam model with DLC. People like PMDG provide the DLC and MS gets a cut of the action. Plus, they vet the submissions, etc. Not sure how freeware would be affected and whether MS wants to take on the role currently served by the AVSIM library. The risky move is to alienate everyone to the point that people shun the new title. And if we do shun it, that'll probably be the nail in the coffin (or maybe not, MS owns the intellectual property rights and won't want to see them die off). In fact, MS Flight might be a "Vista" in the sense that it will try to do some new things but get them wrong. Then, they'll comeback with a cleaned up successor and reinstate "simulator" in the title and all will be forgiven.Or not. Who knows?

I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.

I don't care if it looks like FSX which I don't think it does in the latest shots. As long as it simulates weather properly and they sort out ground physics and make it a GPU orientated piece of software it will be great.

I think they still have a long way to go. And I do believe they are basing their work on what has been done for FSX, though it is hard to say if they keep a lot of things or not, at least I must say that when I saw their few screenshots it looked nicer to me than what they had released previously with FSX, but somehow looking mainly at the water elements of the screenshots it really looks like FSX default water. So far we still don't know enough of the software becase yes they want to attract more people but they also want to keep the traditional simers from the FAQ content so without more information than this there still a long way to go before we can really check what it gives, what is the direction they have taken and all, before that I don't believe that there is anyway to know if a port of things like the NGX will even be possible or not, but I sure hope they release a new one with the same old features and the required openings to have great add-ons and that the engine will be using the latest usefull tweaks that really use the CPU/GPU strength. But only future will tell, for now let's just wait for the NGX to be released and then maybe next year we'll now more about this new sim :)

"...new gameplay elements..." - while this has potential, they want more focus on MS Flight, the game (notice the "simulator" term is the one to go).
I would not read too much into this - "gameplay" is a generic term in the video game world and encompasses everything you do inside a game (which MS has always considered FS to be). The dropping of "Simulator" from the title is just a marketing thing - they want to "reboot" the franchise after the ACES closure and tried to give it a bold simple name. It doesn't mean it isn't still Flight Simulator.
