I'm trying to figure out why anyone would ever want to uninstall FSDreamteam scenery in the first place?

Maybe I'm unique, but I like to decide what's installed on my FSX installation. Further, I now have hangs about every 5 seconds in Hawaiian areas, that were non-existent prior to installing QW757 which trojaned in the Add On Manager w/o my consent or so it seemed. Umberto, the programmer for Add On Manager says the pop up I got was "cosmetic". He quite obviously sidestepped responding to my comment in the same post on FSDT forum re video hangs in Hawaiian areas I experienced after the "cosmetic" popup appeared, telling me my 'trial period has started.' He says this isn't what's happening, ie I don't have any of their scenery installed, despite the mislead in the Add On Manager's interface plus the appearance of the pop up. Obviously people on the whole find FSDT nice software. My experience is limited, and not so pleasant thus far.And if it's still hard to figure out for you, consider people must decide where they want to allocate resource overhead. Complex scenery is one that can adversely impact performance, though I don't know about theirs in this regard.

So now you're calling it a trojan because it uses an addon module for anti-piracy and features? Give me a break... if you want to be a drama queen about all this, then fine. But nobody else is getting these issues so I am going to assume it's just user error.

To each their own, but I get no pauses from my FSDT airports (KLAS, KJFK, KORD, KFLL) and I love them. Your loss in my opinion. Happy flying.

No I called it a Trojan because it behaved like a Trojan, it was an ANALOGY, X3. Stop protecting the developer, they can stand on their own. And also, you don't have a clue how many people are having issues w/ pauses. I decided to go to their forum, and here is the 2nd search hit on "pauses": Problem with Addon-Manager and Trial Mode« on: October 22, 2010, 05:03:59 PM » Reply with quoteQuoteHi,I don't own any of the FSDreamteam airports (yet) but have the QualityWings 757 and therefore the Addon Manager installed.I downloaded and installed the Standalone Addon-Manager as well from one of the Info-Sites for the FSDT Products.Yesterday I wanted to fly in Hawaii and picked PHLI which I think would be covered with the Hawaiian Airports Volume 1 and once the flight started I got the announcement that Hawaiian Airports Volume 1 now runs in Trial-Mode. But I didn't even download the product nor install it or any demo-version.Plus: when loading there the sim pauses and every 2-3 seconds, so it's impossible to fly there. To rule out ony problems with my sim I restarted the flight at Dillingham ( from Aerosoft) and had no problems there. The folder fsdreamteam in the FSX main folder only contains a folder called couatl and none of the scenery.cfgs in various places have any scenery entries for any of the fsdreamteam-sceneries.I would definetely like to get some of your products but would still like to fly at some places for which you offer sceneries without having to install them.I did not test yet at other airports so I don't know yet if it'll be the same there.ThanksMalte--------------It's the exact same issue, X3. This is why people take the time to ask questions. Thanks to the others for their helpful & constructive comments. Now that I am in the FSDT forum, I will f/u there.

Just a follow up: Trial messages in the Addon Manager only appears if a scenery is actually installed but, there was a specific problem which affected ONLY PHLI area, which has been fixed after your report, and it's already online since last week so, anyone installing it now will already get the updated version:http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=3999.msg35516#msg35516And, it's best to point out that, even if the Addon Manager installs automatically with every product that requires it (it wouldn't make any sense to offer you a choice to install something that, if you refuse to install, will result in the product not working), it DOES have a clear option to Uninstall it: as with any Windows program, its Uninstaller is in the Windows Control Panel under the "Add/Remove Programs" section, and it's included in the normal uninstall routine of any product that comes with it so, you'll be able to Uninstall the Addon Manager when Uninstalling any product that came with it. At the end of the Uninstall process of any of such products (like the FSDT sceneries, the QW757, etc.), you'll be asked if you want to remove the Addon Manager, alerting that removing it will render inoperative any other products that requires it, that's why you have been given a choice *here*. You might also see a separate "Virtuali Addon Manager X" entry, but only if you installed the Stand-Alone version, otherwise the Addon Manager Uninstall is included with any Uninstall of any product that came with the Addon Manager, and it's a choice you are presented with (you wouldn't want the removal of, let's say, PHLI trial, automatically screw up your QW757 installation).

I'm sorry I feel like a dufus, but I don't recall how this thing became part of my FSX installation and I want to get rid of it asap! It is not showing up as a program to be uninstalled. It apparently came from FSDreamTeam, and I must have installed it of course, but really don't want it any longer. Help!attachicon.gifUntitled.jpgThanks in advance!Noel

Noel:

I'm with you. I found this on my system after installing the Quality Wings 757.  I have searched online for Virtuali Addon Manager and can only find that they have developed software addons for some 12 years.  Nothing says why or how they are associated with FSDT or Quality Wings; at least my search hasn't came up with anything relevant.  Have you found anything?

Its a necessary utility for certain add-ons.

The person who devised that scheme and I went around one time. I didnt want his crap on my computer and why did QW.Bglman design their software that way! Water under the bridge now. Notice QW dodnt use that no more!

Yeah, I noticed. You sound annoyed, sweetheart. Why bother to respond to something that offends you so?

@RWFeldman - I removed the post from Markopoelo.  Please do not respond.

Nope I haven't but I have made peace w/ it.  I have a couple of airports from FSDT and in all truth the Addon Manager doesn't have any problems with it, so I just live w/ it and all's fine.  I've left FSX in favor of P3D V2.x which keeps getting more impressive by the month practically.

Good Luck,

I had already decided to avoid using QW757 due to how the windscreen makes the beautiful textures created by FEX & REX2 null an void by simulating a non-clean windscreen,

If you go to the QW forums, there is a 'fix' for this that gives you a clean windscreen.

I really dislike trials or any software that embeds itself without a clear uninstall routine. Happy to be rid of it and won't be looking into FSDT anytime soon, regardless of their reputation.

That's not the case.

ALL products from FSDT have a very clear Uninstall option and, of course, it's like every standard Windows program out there expects to find it, in the "Add/Remove" section of the Windows Control Panel.

However, the Addon Manager module is also used by other software publishers, like QW or Flightbeam and even Aerosoft sometimes. Which mean, you might have got it from one of those installers too.

And of course, ALL of them would also appear in the "Add/Remove" section of the Windows Control Panel, under their own names and have the same Uninstaller method.

Since the Addon Manager is a module shared by MANY products, like FSUIPC, all installers that come with it won't AUTOMATICALLY remove it, that would be really wrong: imagine if you had an airplane that came with FSUIPC, and its installer would *automatically* remove it when Uninstalling, killing many other products in the process, THAT would be an Uninstaller you should stay clear of!

All our Uninstallers, and the QW and Flightbeam Uninstallers too, will remove JUST the product they are related to, by default, but at the end of the process, you'll see the following questions:

"Do you want to remove the Addon Manager ?"

"Do you want to remove the Couatl scripting engine" ( not all product use this or come with this )

If you reply YES to any of those questions, the installer will WARN you with this message:

"WARNING - All products requiring the Addon Manager will not work anymore, do you want to continue ?"

IF you confirm, the Addon Manager would be removed, so that would be a complete uninstall.

As you can see, you ARE being given a very obvious method of Uninstalling, and you are in total control of what to Uninstall and these messages are exactly the same, regardless if you launched an FSDT a QW757 or a Flightbeam Uninstaller.

Ugh, now everyone is responding to a 3 year old thread. Isn't this one over yet?
