January 15, 201115 yr in my spam filter this morning: :( --First, let me preface this post with a positive:Avsim and Flightsim and Simviation all offer interesting layouts to their sites. Why I prefer Avsim has much to do with the way they treat us--Tom forgives a lot of baloney from the members and I am not an innocent in that regard. Regarding the spam, I don't think it will end (yet) for a couple of reasons. First reason--as long as there are mini "wars" going on between the simulation sites and ill will posted (as I have seen in the past few weeks), the spam will go on. By mini wars, I don't mean wars between the forum mods and those that fund the sites--what catches my attention are the posts made by well meaning members that just go off center when emotions kick in. We all have a fondness for Avsim. We all have grown up on this site because the mods let us make mistakes and learn from them. I have joined the wars in the past, and now I am trying to stay out of the fray and just focus on making something negative into a positive. Second reason--spam disgusts all of us. I think there is a new class of spammer out there, I label as "spam bully". I know it''s hard, it makes us angry, and it makes us want to lash out and hit back in some way, but ultimately I think we should not cave in to spam bullies. They crave attention and it's attention they have when the forums get flooded with emails every time these issues appear. I want to end my reply with a positiveThere is a lot this hobby offers--it can and should be entertainment. It does not hurt anyone unless we obsess over it. Let the spam go, discuss something else, and enjoy this gift we are given. I can't honestly say spam does not bother me, but I can say I believe I have so many better alternatives to the angst spam gives me. Choose "delete". and the spam will be gone. Regards,John
January 15, 201115 yr Commercial Member In this case, the email addresses were mostly stolen. It's not a matter of which web site is 'best', it's a matter of basic right and wrong.I may be mistaken, but I believe said website operates in the UK which has far more restrictive laws regarding all of this and yet they appear to be operating with impunity. I cannot get a handle on U.S. law. I think it too weak to prosecute someone unless they are trapped into confessing. That said, I don't get the spam on my private email address any longer and I have blocks in place to keep the spam from hitting my more common public email address. I think there's no question someone violated basic right and wrong here. OTH I have sometimes received rather benign spam with a positive message or with a product I am interested in. At home I still get junk "snail" mail, and I throw away what I'm not interested in.O/T, if you've never read it Ed (or any forum member), try to read "The Cuckoo's Egg" by Cliff Stoll. It's a must if you enjoy and seek privacy in online affairs, and the book was written 22 years ago. It also gives one a sense of how the web evolved and more importantly, it gives an understanding that no one can escape a dragnet if their crime is serious enough.Regards,John
January 16, 201115 yr The unfortunate thing is the person who ends up buying the site (unless it's handed to other members of their community) will want nothing but money from it.The email database is included, and will most likely be sold on to more spammers.
January 16, 201115 yr The email database is included, and will most likely be sold on to more spammers.I posted a question on the auction website about the email database, but it got deleted. An anyway, Phil sadly seems to have recovered from the heart attack and announced on the SimFly.eu forum that he will be working on a new project. So expect more spam from him too, regardless of what happens to SimFly.eu

So expect more spam from him too, regardless of what happens to SimFly.euOf course it was deleted, he can't have potential buyers finding out about the awful reputation and the bad things he's done.I don't think he'll be taking the database with him though, he just wants out.
January 16, 201115 yr Ihatemymouse.Bond with your mouse and say nice things to it. It's hard when someone is holding your body down and dragging you around all day :smile:Also playing music never hurts...or so I hear. And when your mouse really gets the best of you, feed it chocolate. It really helps, or so they say in Harry Potter.Regards,JohnEdit: And for those who take me too seriously, I am talking computer mouse here. No real mice were harmed in the writing of this post..... :(

January 16, 201115 yr Moderator It just double clicks unprompted... quite annoying :)My new laptop does that. It's annoying as all get out! If I hover over anything more than six seconds, whatever I'm hovering over get's "double-clicked..." :( Fr.
