Thanks :Applause: Much appreciated!Exactly what I needed. I asume that you have disabled HT in BIOS since you've OCed to 4.6GHz.
No. HT is enabled.

OK. That explains the high score. I get 9 266 with HT enabled and about 2 000 lower with HT disabled. HT doesn't make any diff for FSX.So far I don't see any need to replace my existing rig for a P67 based solution. I'll wait for LGA2011 based systems. Thanks to all of you for sharing information :Applause:

 No, David. I'm sure that your'e running your OC:ed CPU with HT disabled, which is the way to go with OC to keep the temps as low as possible. If you enable HT you'll gain about 2 000 on your score. And if you decrease DescendDescend's score with 2 000 the diff between your rig (8 000) and his (10 000) isn't that alarming :Whew:

2011 is just a new socket, not a new architecture. It doesn't matter how many extra cores, extra memory channels or PCIe lanes it offers. FSX wil not benefit from that in single GPU builds

Dario,(I asume that your post was a response to my post)Yes I know that LGA2011 is only a socket. But I was referring to the LGA2011 based systems. That is the Sandy Bridge extreme processors.Do you have information to share regarding the expected performance of the upcoming SB x-treme processors?

Edited by UlfB

With HT off.The key point maybe that the i920 is probably near its limit wheras I am not pushing the 2600K too hard (Max temp 66C on hottest core, 1.328 Volts on chip). I'm waiting to see how long the chips last with 1.4 volts before trying near 5Ghz.

I'm just saying that SB is a step fordward. Better IPC, better OC. 2011 is still SB, no matter how many channels or lanes it sports. FSX is pretty simple to figure out.32 nm 2011 chips will perform just as 32nm 1155s in FSX. See 45nm NehalemsIvy bridge's shrink will probably OC better, but that's about it

Perhaps he'll quote you a graph from 1967.....

Dario,Thanks for claryfying  So it would be a waste of time to wait for the LGA2011 based systems? An OC:ed SB 2600K on P67 will be as fast? Not much point in upgrading an existing i7 system then

I can't tell you what to do of course. I'm waiting for the most promising upgrade... MS Flight

You're right Ulf :--)That also means that with HT disabled, the 2600k can be overclocked far much than 4.6 Ghz with the same temps. That's promising.

Well, in 1366 clock speed and ram where just as tied as in SB, it doesnt matter if you get your RAM to 1600MHz with a BCLK of 100 or 200 with half the multi, but whatever. It could be a number of things, could be what you say and SB works different with the lower BCLK, could be a BIOS that needs improving..., who knows. You could try with 2 dimms and see if you can get it stable with tighter timmings. It's up to you of course. Are you running your RAM at it's rated voltage? Vccio should be no less than 0.5V than VdimmAs for the 2600K actually it should still be running much cooler than that even with HT on based on the overclocks I've seen so far. Maybe reseating the H50 is a good idea as you said, or try different fan configs
I believe I tried everything with my RAM, even had a Mushkin rep helping me out - see my dilemma and all the settings I tried at overclock.net here. I picked up some Corsair 2x4GB DDR3 2000 (9-10-9-27) to try out today at Fry's. My mobo will run it at 1866, but I haven't managed to coerce it into running at 2133... yet. See my comparison between it and the Mushkin here. I think you're right that it's probably something with the BIOS. I think all the major brand boards are suffering from little quirks here and there - as someone said, this is the problem with being an early adopter. Don't let me scare you, though - with only 2 memory slots populated things are good and stable overall. It's only when I try to push things that it becomes unstable. I will post some of my MaxxMEM results here later so that you don't have to go over to overclock.net to see them. Expect to see this post edited soon.I'm still a little surprised by the shortcomings of my h50 right now. I agree that everyone has made it sound as if these chips put out so little heat, though they do compared to i7-9xx chips. I already reseated it once but I'm going to try again and really use very very little thermal paste. Once I'm happy with how it's cooling, I'll also try disabling HT to see how much further I can push this chip - it looks promising!
Can i ask you how the sb turbo mode handles FSX before you o/c it
I'll get back to you on this, but it may be a couple days. My subjective results are currently with it at 4.6, and as I said, it was much better than my Q9550 at 3.6... go figure.
Nice, I stay tuned for your tests.I must wait for my new rig with sandy bridge (next week I hope!)Could you do some tests on fps killer sceneries in your FSX ?Did you test FSX without overclocking?
I don't really have any killer sceneries. I prefer tileproxy and REX. I still need to get both of those installed and running along with my PMDG 747X. I will have more details soon, but it may take a few days.
Please gentlemen :Praying: Add benchmark results. Passmark Peformance test (download here http://www.passmark.com/index.html) .
I will try to do this later tonight. Thanks for including the download link.
