February 1, 201115 yr Are there any mods or add-ons that create realistic damage for the default planes that shipped with the base game and the expansion? It is quite disappointing to just have a sim session end with a flat message "plane was overstressed". Likewise seeing an engine burst into flames or spew black smoke would be really nice. Thanks! :( (oh, is there a mod or add-on to add passengers too?)
February 1, 201115 yr I believe that functionality does exist in FSX. It is in the failures interface, bottom right of the free flight user interface. You can tick boxes for engine fires, for example.Cheers,Noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals

But if an engine will burst into flames, or a wing can be torn off (that you can actually see) I will be really happy!
February 1, 201115 yr Moderator But if an engine will burst into flames, or a wing can be torn off (that you can actually see) I will be really happy!I don't think there is any freeware of payware that models physical damage like wings being torn off. However, some payware like the PMDG JS4100 does model engine fires if you mistreat them, with flames and smoke. I think there also maybe some models that will show the landing gear collapse or sparks shooting out from under the plane if you land with the gear up.Frankly though to be honest, I dont think that FSX was really designed to be a damage simulator by letting you rip the wings off of an aircraft or fly into buildings and cause explosions or damage. Stuff like that is better left to arcade games and combat simulations. If you interested in learning the basics of piloting an aircraft, be it an airliner, helicopter, or small prop plane then FSX will do well for you. If you want to simulate ways of killing yourself by overstressing the airframe and breaking the wings off, then your probably going to have to find another sim that models those types of animations.BTW, why do you want to try and break the wings off anyways? What fun is falling to the ground in a heap of metal without any control surfaces? Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
February 1, 201115 yr BTW, why do you want to try and break the wings off anyways? What fun is falling to the ground in a heap of metal without any control surfaces?Unless I'm reading the OP wrong what they are looking for is an increased sense of realism, consequenes to bad piloting techniques if you will. After all FSX is a simulator so why not simulate the horrendous things that can happen when things go wrong?Bryan.
February 1, 201115 yr Wasn't this something that MS emitted from the sim, for fear of the reaction from aircraft manufacturers. Mr Boeing wouldn't regard it as a good advertisement for his product.
February 1, 201115 yr what you want my friend is FSPassengersjust google it and it will take you to there website, you can d/l it and do a free demo.. I fly every flight with it, it is awesome, you can't be a sloppy pilot Ciao!

What fun is falling to the ground in a heap of metal without any control surfaces? As bsmfinegan stated, it's just for immersion. We often do things that stress the aircraft and the the sim will just cut to a "you're dead" type statement. If you can see what you did wrong it makes learning easier and immersion much more realistic and interesting. For example - going too fast with landing gear down in real life (on some aircraft) could rip the gear off or bend it back. Running the engine with no oil will cause an engine to smoke or catch on fire as opposed to just "stopping". So it's all about reailstic immersion. Plus, "SEEING" an engine fall off, vs. just having it simulated is much more frightening.

Systems damage (non-visual for the most part) is the best you're going to find. No wing loss, no ripped gear, etc. This is a flight simulation... not a crash simulation.
