March 31, 201214 yr I have a question about the way XP9 loads the scenery. Here's how my custom scenery folder looks:a_example (detailed airport scenery)b_example (OSM2XP generated scenery)c_example (Road scenery)x_example (Photo-scenery)No matter how I rename the OSM2XP scenery to change the order of loading, it always kills my airport buildings by placing autogene scenery at the airport. Any solutions?Thank you in advance. In OpenStreetMap, airport buildings should have tags like aeroway=hangar or aeroway=terminal:http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/AerowaysIn OSM2XP, there's a filter where you can say aeroway buildings will not be included in the scenery.Happy flying ! :( Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
March 31, 201214 yr Thank you. Meanwhile I found out that it is safe to open the add on airport scenery in World Editor and add some fascade exclusions.
April 12, 201214 yr Author Hello, Osm2XP v2.0.2 is available on the downloads page of http://osm2xp.com Right now only win 64 bit is available, i'll build the other versions tomorrow, so i'll be able to fix some minor bugs before building everything. New features: -Experimental .shp support (will only work with wgs84 projected files for now) -3d objects generation (wavefront export) -Simplify shapes option (checked by defaut, in the main tab, scenery options) -> more simple polygons -> more sloped and textured roofs -> should also be better for xplane performance as it will need to draw less vectors. -Some options to exclude buildings wich are too big or too smal (xplane advanced options tab) -New HD texture set, i'm really interested in performance feedback on this point. -Some minor interface changes And maybe other things i already forgotten... The main change is that it should look better thanks to the new textures, the shape simplification stuff, and some more logic on facade attribution (you can have a look at the xml file in the facade set folder, you will see what's used, it's still wip). Cheers Ben
April 13, 201214 yr Author There are a few bugs, i'll release a fix tonight/tomorrow and start building other versions. I wrote an article on osm2xp about this release, bugs, features etc http://osm2xp.com Ben
April 13, 201214 yr Author Bugs fixed, win 64, win 32 , macos 64 versions available on http://osm2xp.com Linux versions will be released tomorrow. Ben
April 14, 201214 yr Great news, thanks a lot! Does it fix the bug of not creating the buildings with the height= tag set equal or higher than the limit set in osm2XP? Does it fix the problem with always rendering the whole tile even if only a small area is "exported" from osm? Thanks again for your hard work, Jan
April 14, 201214 yr Author I Jan, No , the goal of this release was to publish some things made months ago, i'll adress those things on the next release. Ben
April 18, 201214 yr G'day Ben, I'm a complete newbie to X-plane and over the weekend installed the program X-Plane 10 along with all seven scenery DVD's. That was an epic at 90 minutes a disc. I have downloaded all the openscenery files and also installed OSM2XP. I found a file for Australia at a website to load into osm2xp and build a series of dsf files produced in the earthnavdata folder. Do I now simply place these files in the custom scenery file folder of X-plane and do I have to use ALL the navdata folders or can I be selective and just use the areas I'm interested in. Unfortunately Botany Bay is shown as landfil by the supplied DVD's. Will osm2xp correct this? Congratulations on producing such a brilliant program as osm2xp. Cheers, Roger http://forum.avsim.net/public/styles_images/flags/au.png
April 19, 201214 yr Author Hi Roger, You can choose the dsf files to put in the custom scenery, but i don't see the point, just drop the folder in your xplane custom scenery. Remember to change the name of the generated folder, so it will be loaded first by xplane (put a "1" at the beginning of the file if you don't have other third parties sceneries for the area). Osm2xp will generate buildings found in openStreetMap , if it's empty for an area, no magic. unfortunately Austria is not very good in OSM, so don't expect too much... The best thing to do is to go to this map http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=-27.1&lon=135.2&zoom=5&layers=M Zoom on cities and look how many buildings data you have. This way you'll know what to expect with osm2xp. Then download this file http://download.geofabrik.de/osm/australia-oceania/australia.osm.pbf And feed it to osm2xp, you'll have in xplane what you saw on the openStreetMap website. Cheers Ben

I'm flying over an accurate detailed roadmap but as you say there are only a few buildings. That doesn't overly worry me. Eventually I'll model the major buildings and add them in myself - when I learn how. Where are the trains coming from?? X-Plane or OSM2XP? The big drawback I have is that Botany Bay has farmland and forest texture - should be water! See the pic below. Taking off from runway 16R there should be 5 Km of water before crossing the Kurnell peninsular. Is there any program that allows the user to modifiy the coastline??? Thanks for your help. Dry as a bone Botany Bay. Cheers, Roger http://forum.avsim.net/public/styles_images/flags/au.png
April 20, 201214 yr Author Trains, roads, railroads are coming from xplane global scenery files. To add water you would have to modify the mesh (using meshTool?) but it seems to be a difficult thing to do, maybe you should report the problem to Laminar, and maybe they'll make a better mesh for this place on the next global scenery update. You can also contact AlpilotX (Andreas) on this forum, he's in charge of mesh related stuff for xplane10. Ben
April 21, 201214 yr Thank you Benny ! You'll find more X-Plane shots in the AVSIM Screen Shots Forum or here where I'm closer to the ground: Benny, did you already get feedback from OSM2XP users using the FSX output format for objects ? Happy flying ! B) Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
