Runway Info Gauge in FSX?

Featured Replies

Does the runway info gauge work in FSX? I know it works in FS2002 and FS2004 but can't get it working in FSX. Thanks, Bob.

May I ask a clarifying question -- are you referring to runway Lat, Lon, Elev, Direction, Designation, Length, Width, Surface, Lighting ... the gps WaypointAirport variables?

Hi Newbie. Thanks. No I wanted to use the Ernie Alston Runway Info Gauge. It gives the ILS frequency, runway numbers, NAV info, etc. I know I can get the info from the GPS but I was trying to get it working for a friend who wanted it. Regards, Bob.

I'm a bit confused Bob - initially you posted that you could not get it to work in FSX - now you indicate that it does work.Did Ernie provide a "work-around" or a revised set of instructions or ?????It is such a good little utility in FS2004 I would really like to know what is involved in making it work in FSX.

Hi Guys. Sorry I too am confused. I myself cannot get it to work in FSX. Ernie, the author, stated in an e-mail to me, that it works in FSX. I sent another e-mail to him asking about the two text data files and where to put them in FSX. I assumed they went into the main FSX folder and did not require any modifications but when I put them there it did not work. It allows the entry of the location ICAO but does not give the airport or the NAV data so far. If and when Ernie gets back to me with further instructions I'll post the info here. Regards, Bob.

I tried setting it up in FSX exactly as I have it in my FS2004 setup (which works) and am able to display the "screen" but it will not accept any keyboard input - the ICAO code.I am using rwyinfov2.zip which I got from Ernie's site:http://www.fsbuild.com/rwyinfo/In FS2004 there is a sub-folder in my Main FS2004 folder named Rwyinfo and it contains the two text files - Pnavdata.txt and Prwydata.txt. I placed a copy of that folder into my Main FSX folder. Then for testing I placed the actual gauge file - rwyinfo.gau - into the panel folder of the default b-737. FSX asked if I wanted to load it and I said yes.As I said, the gauge screen displays properly, it just will not take any keyboard input.Hope you will soon hear from Ernie with instructions to get it working properly.

Hi David. I can input the text but after that nothing happens. No news yet from Ernie. Regards, Bob.

Just curious if you are using the same version I am and if you have it set up the same way. Strange that you can enter text but I cannot.

For what it might be worth:I have Rwyinfo installed in FSX and it works just fine. This old memory does not remember anything special for FSX and the only download I see is still in my archived FS9 related folder. It is version 2. You might check the following:1. The heading comes up with a title: "Runway/Navaid Selection (Build 5)".2. Be sure that the "prwydata.txt" file is installed in your FSX root directory.Good luck.RTH

Not sure what you mean by the "heading" ?I have placed both txt files in the FSX Root directory rather than in the folder named Rwyinfo (as it is in FS2004) and no difference. The gauge displays just fine and I can bring up the pink bar where you enter the ICAO code - but nothing shows up in the bar as I type.Using FSX with SP1 and SP2 installed (No Acelleration) on an XP OS.Perhaps it is just not meant to be.

I started from scratch. I completely removed Rwyinfo from FSX. I downloaded it again and while I was there I looked at the FSX support thread posted by Revraz. From his posts I assumed that you put the whole Rwyinfo folder in FSX just like FS9.I did, again, and this time it works. I wonder why it didn't the first time I did exactly that?..Don

Hi Don. Exactly what did you do? I assume you have the rwyinfov2 gauge in the gauges folder and a RwyInfo folder with just the two txt files in the FSX main folder. Is that right? When I look at the properties of the gauge it says Version 0.1.0 but inside the gauge it says V2. The two txt files are dated 2005. Thanks, Bob.

Hello David:Sorry that you are having such trouble with rwyinfo. The "heading" was meant to be simply the title shown at the top of the gauge display. I will try to attach a screenshot (FSX, old model Carnado V35, although I have the gauge in all of my FSX aircraft).I don't remember having any trouble getting this gauge to work in FSX or having to do anything special. It works just fine so I imagine the solution is simple if you can hang in there long enough to get it to work. You probably did, but if not try restarting your computer after inserting the files in your root directory. From what you have said, I am at a loss as to why you cannot enter your airports (You do have "airports" selected rather than "vor / NDB"?Good luck!RTH
