Changing to WOAI ?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys My flightsim setup is set in 2008 ( I like all the old liveries of the American carriers) I have most of the US covered in relevant airlines to any given area. I.E United at KORD, Spirit at KFLL.I have always inserted my own airliners and flightplans using ATIM, TT Tools etc. Now here's the question, I have always been tempted by WOAI. Before using this utility would I need to remove my 350 plus airliners and existing flightplans and start from scratch? And, if I wanted to update to say 2011, if I load up WOAI is it just a case of overwriting the existing WOAI package.Any help would be apprecated.RegardsNic Jackson

In order to get a good "feel" of how WOAI will work for you, I would recommend removing your existing Traffic files to a temporary storage area. Probably no reason the remove the actual aircraft. Then install the auto-installer and as many of the packages as you care to use for "testing". As updated packages for specific airlines are released, the installer will take care of replacing the older flightplans automatically. If you are pleased with the overall functionality etc. of WOAI, then you can add back those previous Traffic files if you feel they are needed. The great thing about FS2004 (and FSX) is that you can have as many individual Traffic files as you may desire - as long as each one is uniquely named.Hope those thoughts are useful.

You've asked a huge question in a few sentences.1) You only need to remove those airlines for which you wish to install a WoA package. For example, if you want to use the WoA Air France package - you should remove your customized AFR traffic file. Eventually you will want to remove the unused repaints also because they slow the FS initial startup time.I assume you are not using one huge traffic file in FS2004, but using multiple small traffic files - one per airline. If you are using an FS2002 type single traffic file, it will be a bit harder to edit, but you can do that. You will want to check the dates of the various WoA packages - for example - the Air France package uses flight plans from the Summer of 2009 - so you might want to keep your existing AFR traffic.2) When using WoA - you have to understand how the airlines are packaged. The first thing you need is the WoAI Installer package. Create a working folder on your hard drive and unzip the WoAI Installer files into that folder. Then download a WoA airline package. Never unzip the WoA airline packages - the Installer knows how to open and process them. If you are using Vista or Win7, always run the WoAI Installer.exe with "Run as Administrator"Inside the folder with the WOAI Installer.exe a file will be created named WOAIDATA - this file has no extension and is critical to long term successful operation of WoA. It keeps track of all the repaints installed by each airline package. When an update of an airline is made available, the WoA Installer uses the information in the WOAIDATA file to remove the previous version repaints before installing the new repaints. If you erase or otherwise lose the WOAIDATA file - you can end up with duplicate repaints, duplicate traffic files, etc.Sometimes you will need to use the Expert mode of the WoA Installer to remove an existing airline before installing an update. This is necessary when an airline name changes, or a merger happens. Recently WoA put out a new SAS package - which required that the SAS Norge v1 package and the Scandinavian Airlines v1 package both be removed manually to avoid duplicates.3) Never delete the WoA airlines package .ZIP files after installing the airline. Save them to a safe backup location. If you ever need to do a reinstall - you will have them handy and not have to search for them again.

-You don't need to remove, unless you install the same airlines with WOAI.-If you install an airline with WOAI installer and later there is a new one, just install as usual,it will overwrite :smile:What I've done to my flightplans is I downloaded all the packages from WOAI,and then I update the flightplans to a newer one by downloading the flightplans manually (WOAI doesn't update often). By doing this I can save quite lots of time downloading AI aircrafts

GuysThanks for the quick replys, I will consider my next move as a result of your answers.RegardsNic Jackson

Just to throw in something, I never use the full autoinstall in WoAI. I set WoAI to install into an "out of sim" location. (Actually, I first started doing this with PAI packages, and just kept the routine going.) You end up with traffic bgl files, and aircraft folders / files. You have two main problems in merging those with your existing AI:1. WoAI uses many models, and possibly paints you already have, or you may have models and paints you prefer. I go through the WoAI aircraft one by one and decide to either a. just copy the whole WoAI aircraft folder into my existing "aircraft" FS9 folder, or b. pull out specific paints from the WoAI aircraft.cfg and add those (and the texture subfolders) to an existing AI aircraft (assume same model) or c. just ignore the WoAI aircraft all together because I already have a paint to use.2. The WoAI traffic bgl assumes all the aircraft.cfg paint titles are as provided in the package. If you prefer to use an existing model/paint for one or more flightplans, you will have to use AITM or similar to change the aircraft.txt to point to your aircraft.cfg title versus what was in the package.Aside from the work involved in customizing, there's sort of no going back, as subsequent use of the WoAI installer in full auto won't (AFAIK) find any WoAI models/paints that you manually inserted into your FS9 aircraft folder. The installer assumes that all WoAI aircraft are placed by the installer itself. But I still use the manual method as I have a lot of PAI, FS Painter etc models on my system, and many traffic bgls based on AIG or "unaffiliated" (or even MRAI) flight plan devs. Also I use many of the Jan Martin enhanced flight dynamics, done model radius tweaks, etc that I don't want to undo at this point.I also like to use AITM to combine WoAI traffic files into area sets so I don't have so many bgls to manage (though in FSX AITM doesn't work and it isn't so easy to do this). I also hand-tweak the default traffic bgl in AITM for the most part to remove scheduled traffic in regions where I have addon traffic (still use our good friend Orbit in other areas as well as default GA).scott s..

Wow I never knew you could do this. Thanks a lot!

Happy to help. To take it one step further, you can change those values in-game if you wish. Download the Traffic Toolbox SDK from- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555857 Follow the instructions for TrafficToolbox.dll and you will have a new menu option in the sim. Through the Explorer you can change the values without having to shut the sim down. There is other cool stuff too. regards,Joe
