March 23, 201115 yr A couple of months ago I bought and downloaded Ground Environment Pro from Flight1 but I had a lot of problems getting it up and running with a series of continuous error messages one after the other. I tried lots of different things with the help from you guys but nothing worked so in the end I gave up and got a refund from them.I was still determined to get this programme to work so I thought about buying a disc instead, rather than downloading it. So recently I managed to get myself a copy of Ground Environment, not the Pro edition mind but at least it was a start. So I installed it and downloaded the update to version 1.09 and ticked all 4 boxes to install the textures and ran it, however, as nothing seems to be that easy for me with this programme I hit a couple of messages; the first one read 'Error copying files (not all files were copied!) You may want to try the Read-Only fix in the settings screen'. After clicking OK it continued on and the same message popped up again. After clicking OK once again another message came up saying 'There was an error detecting a required texture folder in Flight Simulator. It could be that an add-on product does not exist in Flight Simulator. Please check the selected Ground Environment texture options and verify and installed add-ons.' Then I click OK and it says files were successfully copied, except that they are not as when I load up Flight Simulator nothing has changed, or at least not that I can see.Does anyone know what the problem is here? I don't know if it's because I have installed VFR Photographic Scenery and VFR Terrain which may be causing an issue. You see, I don't want to unistall these programmes only to find that this was not the problem all along. Is it possible to have VFR Photographic Scenery and Ground Environment installed at the same time? Also is Ground Environment supposed to show in the scenery library? As it does not show up in my settings, but that maybe due to the messages as explained above.Any help and advice for solving this matter would be most welcome as I would really like to see how Ground Environment looks and if it is a lot better than VFR Photographic scenery then I will unistall that but I don't want to do it if Ground Environment does not work!By the way, I have Windows 7 if that's any help to anyone...Thanks for any assistance! March 23, 201115 yr Hi,It's your security settings in Win 7 causing this. Do you have FS installed outside of the Program Files folder like we keep posting?
March 23, 201115 yr Author Hi. I have Flight Simulator installed on an external hard drive (J) so the path is J:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Flight Simualtor 9. I have never had any problems with other add-ons before but this has add-on has always caused me a headache! So what exactly do I need to do then? Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Packard Bell imedia S3210. AMD Athlon II X 3 425 Processor 2.70 GHz. 3 GB RAM. External hard drive 1TB. March 23, 201115 yr Hi,It over-writes files and that is why you are getting the errors.Install FS to J:\FS9 or something like that.
March 23, 201115 yr Hello,I use Ground Environment Pro with no problemsYou must not install GE in FS2004Install it anywhere you want .. not in FS2004 !GE is a stand alone programAfter installed you can run it and you will access the GUIAt first run be sure to accept to save your actual configuration (GE make a backup .. so at anytime you can restore your original)From there you will have a lot of options and your choices will be saved in FS2004IMHO under XP all is rather simple :( Regards.Gus.
March 23, 201115 yr Install it outside of this Program Files (x86) folder. And let the application run as administrator. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
March 24, 201115 yr Author Thanks for all your replies so far but I am afraid I am not getting anywhere with this. Sorry to sound a bit 'thick', but I don't quite understand how to install it outside of Program Files, I tried installing the GE in the path J:\GE to see if that works but then once it had installed I kept getting the same error messages even when I tried to run GE as administrator. There is probably a very simple thing I am or not doing which is making life very difficult for me!The other thing I want to know which I asked about in my first question is, once GE has been installed will it show up in the scenery library or not so I know it has installed OK?,I did think about perhaps installing FS9 again fresh onto a different drive like C and then just install Ground Environment only to see if that works without any conflicting add-ons and that way I can keep what I have already got installed on my external hard drive, but I don't think that's possible is it, to have it on 2 different drives as how would Flight Simulator know which one to run? Or is there a programme which can do this? Thanks again for any suggestions! Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Packard Bell imedia S3210. AMD Athlon II X 3 425 Processor 2.70 GHz. 3 GB RAM. March 24, 201115 yr Re-download without your antivirus program running. Then re-install. I've had this problem with other downloads and this was often the problem. Good Luck.
March 24, 201115 yr Author I did try turning my antivirus off but it made no difference. Don't forget that is is not a download I am installing, it is from an original box disc... March 27, 201115 yr Hi,I once and twice had problems with GEPRO 2, and the painful solution each time was to do a complete reinstall of Windows 7..And then to install FS9, GEPRO 2 and REX FS2004 in a seperate folders; C:/MSsoftware/FS9, C:/GEPRO2 and C:/REXFS9.I think that the painful lesson was not to switch UAC off as many suggest, annoying as it may be. It is there for a reason, and may warn you about ugly exe-files etc. trying to access your computer. Also keep your antivirus/malware programs updated, and be careful about your internet surfing..BR,Anders
March 27, 201115 yr An to your one queation, It wont be added in your add-on scnerey in the options menu of fs9. March 27, 201115 yr Hello.Sometimes windows 7 does strange things to the system register. To restore the fs.9 registry path, you can download this utility.http://tweakfs.com/download/fs9path_utility.zipIt should fix the problem with installing the GE-pro textures, using the software install utility.Lars Peter.
March 27, 201115 yr No, Win 7 doesn't do strange things to the system registry, computer users do strange things to their systems.
May 28, 201115 yr Hi there, I have had a lot of trouble installing ground enviroment also, I would get various errors- files missing which were installed and also a run time error R6034 and MSVCR80.DLL missing (which was installed) the method I used was to goto my computer, right click on ground enviroment cd-rom, select explore, contained on this disk were 5 files one of which was a red setup icon (DONT CLICK) and one folder called GE2006 and within this folder there is a purple setup icon, I double clicked on it and it installed no problem. I think the problem lies with the cd auto run program. Give it a try worked for me.
May 28, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the suggestion but that does not work for me as I have the download version of GE Pro which doesn't seem to have the same set up as what you have descibed. I think I have tried every possible suggestion to get this to work and now I think it's about time I gave up for good on it! Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Packard Bell imedia S3210.
