March 27, 201115 yr Hi guys,After a successful first attempt to build a PC I moved on to the fun(but somewhat frustrating) part. I am now running prime 95( as I type) on my I5 2500k @4.8. I have set my Vcore to 1.38 but hopefully I can set it lower and still maintain stability at that clock speed. Temp so far are hovering in the very low 60s.I'm guessing I will attempt 5ghz just for fun, but I don't really want to push the vcore too high for everyday use.To my point. In "Nick's" guide he mentions that you should always optimize(Windows)and install software(FSX) at default clock speed. Doest this apply to this new chip? I'm guessing that most of this would not stress the CPU too much therefore keeping it from going in turbo mode.Anyway, I'm very anxious to now install FSX and all kinds of addons, but I want to make sure everything is done right the first time to give an optimal situation right from the top. Thanks again for all your help.
March 27, 201115 yr I guess it still applies to SB. Simply save your OC profile and reset to stock clocks while optimizing the OS and installing everything. Then load your OC settings again and your good to go
March 27, 201115 yr Congratiulation for this chip. How does it work? Was it easy to install? I´ll get mine in one or two months, so this news form first hand would be grateful. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
March 27, 201115 yr Author It installed absolutely perfectly. If it hadn't been for the fact that I ran out of MB screws (my old one needed 6 as opposed to 9 for the P8P67) I would have been done in no time at all. Now I just have to learn the BIOS for optimal O/C and all should be good. Dario, I figured it would be the case. Oh yeah, does it apply to dfrag as well? Thanks Edited March 27, 201115 yr by flytrumpet767

It really does not matter what CPU you have, you are tuning the OS and FSX to run at optimum performance.
March 27, 201115 yr About an Sandy Bridge oc: You overclock via the multiplikator. That´s easy. But what is with the voltages? On my current board, which is also overclocked, I didn´t do anythging to the voltages, I just let it on AUTO. Is this also applicable with Sandy Bridge? March 27, 201115 yr Author I wouldn't recommend using Auto for voltages, I guess you never know for sure what the Mobo is going to do. Probably better to set them manually. So far I seem to have reached a multi wall with my I5 2500k, I am now at 4.7 (47 multiplier) with 1.335 vcore (I started at 1.36 and I'm now making my way down to find the lowest stable voltage). For each new voltage I do a 20 pass Intel burn test at high. If it works I go .5 of a volt lower. As far as the wall goes, I tried to go to 5 with 1.41 vcore and got a BSOD. Maybe I have to change different settings. That being said 4.7 makes me happy especially if I can get a relatively low voltage and low temps.More experimenting for sure

Go on testing. I hope I can use your settings when I get my system. On my actual rig with voltages on AUTO it jumpes between an Vcore from 1,10V to 1,25V. I don´t think that I tweak my current setting. Too much to do, too small to get.Thee weeks till easter, I simply can´t wait! Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
March 27, 201115 yr Author I'll be happy to share my settings when I figure out a stable OC. I am now at 4.8 with 1.36 vcore. I just did 20 passes of intel burn test with success and the temp never went higher than 65 degrees. Hopefully it will remain stable when I install FSX.

March 27, 201115 yr Author DO NOT dfrag an SSD ever.....only HD.. :Whew:That's definately one of the reasons I would like to have a SSD...going to take hours to defrag when I'm done installing....ouch...
March 28, 201115 yr That's definately one of the reasons I would like to have a SSD...going to take hours to defrag when I'm done installing....ouch... :Cry:Shouldn't take too long if all you have is FSX installed. Use a third party program like Ultimate Defrag or the other one NickN always recommends.
