High FPS but micro stutters

Featured Replies

I've traced back stutters to a few things:FSX set to unlimited: Avoid this by using the external limiter or lock fsx fps to 30-40.No Affinity Mask tweak in cfg: I have mine set to 14.No Bufferpools setting in the cfg: This is critical. I have mine set at BP=3000 and it's silky smooth. Plus I have an additional 10-15 fps. I have a gtx 480. I could not accomplish this setting with a gtx285. Like many, I got crashes, black screens, dots, etc.Check your traffic settings. They can also contribute to micro-stutters. I hope this helps.Jose
Hey thanks jose for those tips.Do you have your bufferpools setting at 3000 or 3 million?+

Guys I am so frustrated. People who have systems very similar to mine seem to have really smooth performance. But whatever I try, I am still able to see the stutters. What I dont get, is that even though my FPS is fixed at 35, why do i still get stutters. I have tried all of your suggestions to no avail.Any other advice?
Triggered by DJ's post, try setting freeway traffic to zero and try fps=30 if your monitor refresh rate is 60.

3 THOUSAND. This is the only way to take advantage of the additional FPS.If you don't have a good video card, you will experience artifacts. This all came about after the BP=0 conclusion.

Hey DJ,Thank you so much man. The buffer pool tweak works like a charm. Awesome!I'd rate your post 5 star if there was such a system :)

Awesome, this one did it!Been using BP=0 but its unstable, tried BP=3000, now stable, no hickups, waits, stutters etc.The mysterious and weird ways of FSX!

My machine has to be set at 30fps with the internal limiter. With the external limiter set at 30 (running unlimted), I'll get variations between 21 and 49 pretty consistently which causes stutters on my system. I have scenery and AG sliders set which allow consistent 30fps with the internal limiter making a smooth ride. A GTX580 doesn't hurt either :(
This applet does limit frame rate to whatever it is set at, and does this reliably. If you are seeing 21 to 49 this would suggest the applet is not limiting the frame rate as set (ie, if you have it set to 30, you won't be seeing frame rates of 49, only 30--that's what does, limit frame rate). And this would be from either setting the frame lock at 49 or above, or the applet itself is not truly running to limit FSX, which I think would be from an improperly created batch file. Are you maybe using a multi-display set up?
