April 18, 201115 yr Hi everyone. This is my first post here and my question is this...I would like to print out my PMDG 747 Operating Manual so I can have it to leaf through on my desk as I need it, rather than have to switch back and forth between FSX and the PDF.I tried on my home printer but got a paper jam about halfway through the first pass of a double sided printing run. "Sod it" I thought, and then asked for a quote for printing out the file from my local print shop. They quoted me a price, but with the proviso that they "would not be able to print copyright protected documents".Am I stuck or can I get permission from PMDG for the shop to print out the manual for me?Any help gratefully received. Many Thanks,Phil
April 18, 201115 yr Hi Phil,Just for the case that you don't get the permission:Have you had a look at the PMDG shop? You can also buy the printed manuels for your 747. Look >>Here<<. Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!

April 18, 201115 yr Author Thanks for your repies. To Emi: I had a look at the link but it looks as if the manuals they sell are a lot more in depth than the PDF Operating Manual you can download from the website. To ukflight: That is what I thought might be the problem, but it also says "It is a violation of the owner's copyright to distribute this document or any portion thereof without permission of the author."Thanks once again.

April 18, 201115 yr Commercial Member I was print out to make manual in home so don't need worried about copyright and can save more money. That's great, but if you actually read the first post:I would like to print out my PMDG 747 Operating Manual so I can have it to leaf through on my desk as I need it, rather than have to switch back and forth between FSX and the PDF.I tried on my home printer but got a paper jam about halfway through the first pass of a double sided printing run. As long as they have the documentation, they'll do it. Some of them have print stations you walk up to with your own USB drive. All they care about in that case is that you pay to use the printer. Since you were the one carrying out the action of printing, then they could argue you were the legally responsible party, I guess. Kyle Rodgers
April 18, 201115 yr HiI printed the manuals at a local print shop. When it comes to copyright, note the words duplicate and distribute.Printing one copy for your own use, does not fall under those definitions - at least as I interpret it.If so, PMDG should have blocked all printing, including with a home printer. To me, it seems your print shop does not know what they are talking about. What if you went to the print shop with a text you wrote your self and wanted to keep copyrighted - they would not print it?Andy Hagen
April 18, 201115 yr If so, PMDG should have blocked all printing, including with a home printer. That doesnt really matter as locked files can easily be unlocked and printed. The only thing preventing the printing, if that was the case, would be if you abided by any conditions when you bought the product stating that printing wasn't allowed. In the case of PMDG though there are no refunds so this needs to be made clear at time of sale otherwise if you were to disagree with that then you should, in theory, be allowed a refund.I get all my documents printed online and posted out to me. Got them all in nice A5 folders with separators.Have an ipad now thought which is good for reading pdf files.....maybe I won't print anymore!
April 18, 201115 yr At my local printing shop it costs about €0,05 for one page, so I'm planning on printing some 737NGX material. I do have the money for that awesome PMDG set, but the part that doesn't make it attractive are the huge shipping costs. Kind Regards, -Bas Tolsma The Netherlands
April 19, 201115 yr They quoted me a price, but with the proviso that they "would not be able to print copyright protected documents".Wow, you guys in US really care about something called copyright... It seems no one really enforces the law here. In a country where people don't know software is something also need to be bought, being a software developper, I always support legal copy....In my school, our teachers usually make copy of the entire book and distribute them to us. I really don't think that's a good thing :( But yes, they told me that could save money... @o@ --- Howie Wong

I don't support these things, but for a student it's nice to save your parents some money right! Kind Regards, -Bas Tolsma The Netherlands
