Dash 8 questions

Featured Replies

Hello,Is the Dash 8 well advanced in the development now? It would be nice to have an update. What models will be included out of the -100, -200, -300, and -400? Or is it perhaps going to be similar to the NGX where all of the models are included?

Thanks,

Kevin L

They have not announced what models are included with the NGX. I doubt you'll hear anything about the Dash 8 for a while. We are still trying to get over the NGX fever.

They have. It'll be the -600, 700, 800, 900, BBJ1,BBJ2, and BBJ3.

Wow! How did I miss that announcement. Can you point me to the post? I searched for it and could not dig it out. Am I just not seeing it right in front of me? I thought they were going to create separate stickied posts for these kind of announcements. Its frustrating when you have to dig through pages of nonsense to find the buried updates.Much appreciated.

I forgot where it was, but it might be the 'Externalities and the NGX' thread.

Thanks,

They haven't announced what's going to be included yet, so I'm not sure what you're referring to. Robert said just last week they'll announce that once the NGX is in beta.
Second, we will announce pricing, inclusions and recommended specs at some point during beta testing.

Not trying to be argumentative. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any big news like that.I found this from 2 weeks ago.Ryan made a post about this topic.http://forum.avsim.net/topic/331906-questions-on-the-ngx/page__p__1957165__hl__ngx+models__fromsearch__1#entry1957165Regards

Man is the NGX on everyone's mind right now!!!I'm a big fan of Dash's myself (exposed to them a lot at work), and I am looking forward to PMDG's release....From what I "understand" it's gonna be a simulation of the 100/200/300 series...but I wouldn't be surprised if PMDG forgoes the -100 series' with the older electro-mechanical instrumentation and it's associated engine options (PW120, 120A, 121) and focus on either a later generation psuedo-efis equipped -300 and -200's (or just one of the types) with those 123's or 127's.Personally, I hope they inherit a bit of design philosophy from Majestic's Dash 8, as it is simply the most accurate simulation of a turboprop in my opinion on flight sim. It works around FSX's turboprop limitations and provides smooth and accurate engine management with a super-accurate simulation of beta and all that good stuff. It's dead on in terms of modelling the Dash-8...for flight sim that is. It's sorta difficult to explain to people who havn't given either fanda's freeware Dash-8 a try or it's Majestic payware counterpart...so go check it out.http://www.majesticsoftware.comAs for those looking for a Q400 - http://198.164.146.97/fanda/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2546Maybe if one of the PMDG crew is looking for some refreshing non-NGX conversation with a little more civil excitement, they can stop by and give us some Dash-8 tidbits over here :wink:Honestly, with all PMDG has coming down the pipe, I'm not betting on any release until well after Microsoft Flight comes out...and if third-party devs have the tools to embrace the platform...If any of you guys though have any q's on Dash's (exception of the -400's), feel free to ask some q's...i've been around em for a bog chunk of me life and can try to answer some q's for yaMy two cents,Patrick*back to the J41!*

Now, I know this topic has been dead for a little while now...but do you guys think that the Dash 8 will have 3D propellers like that of the MS Q400? It would've been sweet to seem them on the Js41 (still a magnificent aircraft nonetheless!). Excited for both this and the NGX...if it ever comes out :( Regards,Cameron Caldwell

I wouldn't be surprised if they incorporated them into the model; those big Hamilton-Standard's got a pretty cool look to them when they are running.Although, it would have to be seen what kind of performance hit such an option creates. It doesn't seem to lag up things much on the A2A Accusim Spit and B17 on my system.Patrick

The Accusim B-17 has 3D props? ...Interesting. I must look into this! I don't think it would be a huge problem in terms of lagging FSX. Considering PMDG's market is the more 'experienced' simmer (most likely one with a higer end computer), I think they should incooporate it. Even if it caused FPS problems they could possibly leave an option in the PMDG menu or the load up manager to simply switch between 3D and 2D propellers :)Would love to see it! And I can't wait for the Dash and NGX to be released :( Regards,Cameron Caldwell

Hmm..I thought B-17 did...2011-5-8_10-36-29-44props2.jpgIt could be that outboard engine texture just fooling me though...Actually I don't think it does...probably just that texture fooling me.

I'm sure it does. I was checking out some pics/vids of that plane today after you mentioned it did. The animation looks a lot better of that then my Carenado Baron 58. The props don't exist when your looking at the plane perpendicular :(. Nonetheless, a fun little plane to fly. After seeing the Majestic Q400...I have been wondering if the 3D props change to the pitch...I think that would be the coolest thing I'd ever see in this sim. I really hope PMDG does something like that! Now it is just a waiting game............God it doesn't help to be the most impatient person on Earth!!!

Answer to your question, yes, the MJS Q400 props do change to PL adjustments.TAPA.jpgnumber-1-prop-blade.jpg
