I'm not sure what process you are referring to. When you close FS9, is the task (as seen in Task Manager) still running? Either way, there is no connection between a hanging process and a fragmented hard drive. KJ

I'm talking about turning off the computer

Hi,If you have a bunch of stuff running in the background then all of those need to close also.

Does Perfect Disk run in the background as well as on demand? It may need to perform some tasks on shutdown. During your shutdown time see if your disk access light runs quite a bit.My XP takes from 30 seconds to about a minute and a half to shut down depending on what I've been doing.Another thing XP does on shutdown is 'garbage collection'. Part of this is flushing paged memory from the page file. Space used on temp files is deleted and some temp files may be deleted and other items to return XP to a 'pristine' state for the next session.

The same for me.If I have been running FS9 computer shutting time is much longer than if I have not started the simulator.

Hi JohnThanks for the reference. I installed the program.Without having used FS2004, the shutdown time has decreased from 3 minutes to 50 seconds.I also decreased the virtual memory from 5GB to 2GB - don't know whether that played a role or not.Trevor

If there are any other folk with this problem, I have the solution.Don't use page filing!!!I disabled the option. My computer now shuts down in only 17 seconds, even after just using FS2004.Trevor
