May 12, 201115 yr My problem is a bit different than Stephen's. My PC decides to go to sleep by itself. At least I think that's what it's doing.Everything turns off but I can restore the previous state by just pressing spacebar.Doesn't this sound like a PSU issue or is it a problem with the P67A mobos?I've already set power plan to high perf, and told it to never shut off hard disks etc etc in advanced settings. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
May 12, 201115 yr There's some power saving issue there you have to uncheck. Screensaver off?Perhaps there's a BIOS setting for power saving you haven't addressed yet?Bjorn "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
May 12, 201115 yr Author There's some power saving issue there you have to uncheck. Screensaver off?Perhaps there's a BIOS setting for power saving you haven't addressed yet?BjornScreensavers off, power plan set to high perf. Haven't touched any bios settings - I have no idea where to start either. Also I'll add it only does this when the PC is idle, like when I started up this morning, it sat idle at the desktop, I walked away and the monitor was off, and most things were quiet. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

Sounds like you just have it set to awaken when the space bar is hit. There are many other options you can enable. Best regards,Jim
May 13, 201115 yr This is without a doubt a power saving setting. You need to check the individual settings within the high performance plan, don't just assume because it's named "high performance" that everything is set to always be on.

May 13, 201115 yr If you mean in Windows, I've turned everything to off/disabled, if you mean BIOS, no I haven't checked that yet.It has to be a power saving setting, the symptom you described simply could not be a hardware issue because you're able to return the system to normal operation by moving the mouse. The setting could be in Windows or the BIOS though the O.S. usually overrides BIOS settings in regard to this matter so I would start with Windows settings. Are you 100% positive you manually configured all power settings? Did you follow this exact path? Control panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings. Then expand each individual item (click the plus sign) and turn everything to off or never. Most people aren't aware of this extra control panel, you probably just have the default "Turn off display after 20 minutes" still disabled, assuming you're not seeing the login screen after this happens and it just returns you directly to the desktop.
May 13, 201115 yr Author I have a Ultra 1000 VA battery backup - perhaps it's casusing the issues?http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=770423Anyway, here's pics of my BIOS power settings and Windows high perf plan settings: | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
May 13, 201115 yr Author On the other hand, my battery backup seems normal now after I cycled the connection cable, but before I took this picture, it was displaying red for most of the voltages and 0% for battery condition. I wonder if for some reason the battery goes critical and then the PC hibernates (per the plan as you can see near the bottom of those screen shots)Anyway here's the usual battery status:1000 va should be plenty of backup... I checked my PC usage with my kill-a-watt unit and under 3dmark 11 load it only used about 350w. Originally I had this backup for my older AMD6000 system, with a 520W psu.EDIT: I should have prefaced this by saying I live in northern MN and the power company isn't the best. We frequently have power bumps (at least 4 a month), and I got tired of my PC turning off without any warning. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
May 13, 201115 yr Author I've done some further research and believe I've found compatibility issue between the PSU and UPS.Since my Seasonic has active PFC and my current UPS does not have true sine wave output the PSU may be shutting the system down (or suspending it). Never had this issue with with old PSU because it did not have active PFC. (The old one actually does if you buy the international version, with 200-240vac)What I need to look at is another model... something like this:http://www.cyberpowersystems.com/products/ups-systems/adaptive-sinewave-series/CP1500PFCLCD.htmlOr APC's more expensive model (should be enough for my system but not the best for future proofing):http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SMT1000&total_watts=800EDIT: I have now taken out the UPS and I do believe it was the problem. Win7 was probably detecting a critical battery condition and then initiating a system hibernate because the UPS was not producing a true sine wave, while the power supply was requiring one.Does anyone think my PSU may have been damaged in the 1.5 months I've been using the battery backup with the power supply? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
May 13, 201115 yr Your PSU should be fine. Glad you got to the bottom of it. I never use the software that comes with UPSs and as such have never run into this problem.
May 13, 201115 yr Author I never use the software that comes with UPSs and as such have never run into this problem.Yeah the software is dated but works. The main problem from what I read online (lol nuff said) indicates a technical problem and how one doesn't like the other. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

May 15, 201115 yr Author I'll probably plug the UPS back in but I am concerned about it not working because of the multiple times I get red values for that shot above...
