New way to rollout planes - An Idea

Hi,I love pmdg 'cause it's the best: quality/reality not airsimmer...I like complete product not "basic" ...CiaoAndrea Buono

This is something you will NEVER see us do unless it's specifically intended to be a singular piece ala the 747-8 or LCF model extensions or something like that. We're not going to release a 777 that's intended to be a full product in bits and pieces. We don't build our planes that way in the first place - the visual and VC models are still being tweaked right up until release just like the systems are.And also, please don't let this degenerate into a bashing thread on other developers - we're not going to do that here. I'll let it stand for now because it hasn't really become that, but I will lock/delete if it goes south like that.

Worst. Idea. Ever.
+1 If you want realism then just wait, if not then you will find plenty of developpers out there to satisfy your needs, if you prefer a release every 2 months and nothing working correctly than you know where to look...David Di Domizio

Yeah, I just don't seem them ever doing something like this. The reason they are taking so long is to fully complete the NGX. PMDG is very opposed to releasing a half finished product just so people can start flying. I am unsure of your standards of aircraft, but I would like a fully completed one to fly. Again, it goes against what PMDG stands for and has done in its years of operation.-MW

What do you call their 747-800 then, or their Dreamlifter? The 800 isn't even certified yet and there's a PMDG model of it available. They are essentially the same thing that people who have bought exterior models from other developers are, a model that is merged with something that is a bit like the interior, but not exactly.I'm not the world's biggest fan of this approach myself to be honest, but don't go using this as an excuse to be slagging off other developers when the fact is, PMDG have done the same thing with a couple of their Jumbo models.Al
The 747-8 was modeled as a model extension, not a new aircraft. There are not going to be further updates to the -8 to add systems functionality. The plane was intended to be released as a model, and done so. This is not the same thing as a modular approach.William Stroud

Thanks for the replies, now technically even FS9 NG was not a feature complete product but did what none other could in the best possible way. I would guess other commercial related issues would pop like had PMDG only ported the FS9 NG to run on NGX with the promise that they'll feature update the product as things got completed, it wouldn't be logical for them to price it as they would charge now. Then people would be updating their software every few months which again may or might cause issues. Now I am getting a more better picture of why "modular" approach wouldn't be a good thing to do. since the only reason for FS9 to stay on my pricey SSD is NG but anyway waiting for NGX to come out soon ...Cheers!

Ryan, why don't you guys permit bashing developers? You guys are competing!

Ryan, why don't you guys permit bashing developers? You guys are competing!
It's unethical and they have a good relationship with other developers as well. Besides, c'mon, i think that we're all above that level now.

Because there's a difference between competing and bashing... Our product's going to do the talking just fine once people see the difference.

Just like a real airline, I want to buy an entire airworthy aircraft right off the bat.If I have to wait a few months or even years more than I expected to, well such is life.Real life example: There's no real airlines flying 787's with KLN90 GPS inserted where the FMS/INS should have been and will "upgrade it" once the real cockpit is ready. Instead we are in 2011 and there's just no airlines flying 787's yet.Same here. I don't want a 737-800 with default cockpit or even a "Basic" FMS. to me a "Basic" FMS is almost worse than a real one if i'v paid for it.Whole aircraft that work, or use older or different aircraft. For me it's an interesting challenge using the fleet we can get our hands on and make do till the 737 comes on line... and the 777 thereafter.Personally I know that I'll be retiring some of my fleet after the 737 and 777 are released. after 10 years of flying the 767-300 (PIC/LDS) I may well retire it from my personal fleet once the 777 is online.--Trent Hopkinson
