The thunderstorm reminds me...

Featured Replies

Hello PMDG and fellow avsimmers. The daily Virginia thunderstorm outside reminds me ... is there any chance we could see a snap shot of the NGX rain/ icing effects yet?Now that would be a treat! THanks!! Keep up the stunning work!

I think they've already said there won't be rain effects on the windshield.

are there any? I guess they said they reached the max allowed fx/modelling level already with the ngx alone, leaving no space for rain and ice. unless that is one of the big surprises they keep. but then I'd rather like to see a weather radar. which would also show your thunderstorm nicely but in a different way :-)

They have already stated that there will be no weather radar.

I know. but wouldn't that make a nice surprise then?

No, because their stance on weather radar has been the same for ages. It cannot be realistically simulated, ergo, it won't be added. There are certain things you can wonder about and hope for, but that one has been made very, very clear.

Kyle Rodgers

Well they were clear that other things wouldn't be implemented, but in the end, they were. It would be their MO/very typical if they released the product, and low and behold...a working WXR!Kinda like separate wingview sounds. They said "nope, FSX limitation, not happening, sorry" and whatdya know.......they designed a workaround and now we have separate wingview sounds! I'm not saying it's going to happen, or that I'm expecting it, just that it would be typical for PMDG to have done some round-about way to get WXR.

@EfussanderAgreed.This will be my first PMDG Purchase and OMFG i'm itching to get my fingers on it I've been following development process for around 8 - 9 months now and all i can say it's magnificent.

Yes, and I acknowledge that they are brilliant with workarounds, but I think I remember them also saying that the data isn't there for the weather. In the world of computing, if the data isn't there, then there's nothing you can do to show it. The only way others do it is by using some estimates, whereas there's no possible way in FS (at the moment) to have it show actual returns, and that is their issue with the weather radar. If I'm wrong, I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I highly doubt it.

Kyle Rodgers

Yeah unless PMDG has somehow also created a module that makes FSX's weather actually meaningful then I highly doubt there will be a weather radar.

No rain/icing effects for multiple reasons I've already articulated before. (hard animation limit + the effectiveness of the real NG's anti-ice systems - you aren't going to see ice building up on the wings like on a GA plane or a turboprop like the J41)No WX radar for the long standing reasons concerning the sim's weather engine.

pretty clear now I guess. well, let me think about another surprise then...

Thanks for clearing that up. Hmmm, what else could be up your sleeve.......

In my opinion it has something to do with the different options for example different MCPs and so on. There's a lot of things they could do. Or maybe we'll get every single model all together in one package which means we could fly the 600/700/800/900/900ER/BBJ (did i forget anything?)For me that would be the biggest surprise because Ryan stated somewhere that they'll probably do the BBJ later as an update/upgrade.But we will see ;)
