FSX freezing

Featured Replies

This is the most frustrating thing ever. About 10 minutes into every flight FSX freezes for 10 minutes then works for another 10 minutes. I reinstalled and it still happens. I've increased the priority in task manager and it still happens. This started about three weeks ago and it happens on every single flight.W7 64bitIntel Q9550 @2.83 not over clockedNvidia 9800GT4GB RAM

Chris, a few things I would look at if it were me would be to first rebuild a new .CFG. If that does not help I would do a re-install of your video card driver as well as run a de-frag of you HD. Also maybe a windows update did something so if you can maybe roll back to a date when you knew all was well.Jim

Ok so I defragged, removed the cfg file and that didn't work. So I reverted back to when it was working and that didn't help. Looks like I will be out of commission till the next sim comes out. :(

Also try to re-install your VC driver. How clean is your system? If you have alot od dust build up it can cause things to overheat. Maybe PSU?

Is another program running/trying to start in background? Anti-virus? Try taking your PC Off-line next flight.

Updated the drivers to no avail. Temperatures running 80° C. so not very hot.

Tried this as well no avail. The only thing I had running was FSX and Ultimate Traffic.

Two more things that you could try or check.1st - It has been noted then if you have Java installed on the computer FSX is on, there is a process called jqs.exe that I believe is the Java conrol panel. Inside there is an option for auto updates. If it is checked it could be running every so often looking for updates and cause FSX to freeze up or stutter. Someone here mentioned it before and after they disabled the auto updates it seemed to fix it for them.2nd - If you are running any security software like NOD32, Norton, etc, make sure that your root FSX folder is excluded from your virus scanner. This is another thing that has been documented on various forums that can cause FSX to lock up or stutter if your security software starts scanning the FSX folder while you are using FSX.3rd - Make sure if you have any other programs installed like Adobe or things of that nature, their auto-update features are turned off.Not sure if any of these thigs could be causing your problems, but its worth mentioning if you haven't checked or done the things above.

I had this problem a while ago. In my case I found it was associated with limiting the FPS within FSX. If I set it to Unlimited, then I got no freezing, but lots of stutters. If I set it to 30 FPS, then flight was smooth, but I got freezing 10-20 mins in. Every time. The solution was a tip from this forum - set the FPS to Unlimited and instal the external FPS Limiter (search this forum for link) to limit the FPS to 30 (or whatever). This fixed the problem immediately. This may not be the cause of your version of the problem, but it fixed it for me and others. Good luck !

80C is actually pretty hot, especially for a non-overclocked CPU. The OCCT overclock testing tool is set to shut down the test when the CPU reaches 80, and that temperature is generally regarded as a hard ceiling for overclocking. What cooling are you using, and how's the ventilation around the computer case?

I went to unlimited and it didn't freeze for 20 minutes. I wasn't able to continue the flight because I needed to get on with my day. I'll try again hopefully soon and see if I can validate these results.

Sorry it is around 68°C. I don't know where I got 80°C.
